I assume none of that stuff is ever worth the money.

Fact.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

My dad gets a company car and they basically just give him a number and he can pick whatever car he wants. He went with a Dodge Caravan. I'm 32 and his youngest kid.

Pretty much

Although, I recently purchased a $545 service contract where all my maintenance for 2/24 is prepaid but the only reason I did it is that Subaru gives you an additional $500 rebate if you get a new Subaru in the next 4 years. (Which I will do) So I bought it out of pocket instead of throwing in the lease.

From coolest to least cool:

The GLK is a panache choice that will be very costly once it is out of warranty.
The Forester is a wise choice. It puts you in a club of Subaru folks. Nobody is crazy, but they have some interesting habits.
I can't fault the RAV4 exccept that it's the Camry of SUVs. Reliable and not at all interesting.

A few years back, we went with the pre-owned Acura RDX and it was a good choice. Now JR is is driving it.

truth is most Subaru buyers are Northeastern, northwestern or mountainous dwelling (like Colorado) middle class folks that prefer cars over trucks

Subaru -

advantages- high reliability, currently rated the safest cars as ranked as a whole, AWD, currently best in resale value when ranked as a whole

disadvantages- some mechanics dislike or are not familiar with working with the boxer engine (effects you more with used and older vehicles when you dont take it to dealer), interior design (though improved) isn't known for being the best, older cars tend to get a "heat shield ping" noise, inventory is not as available since they are currently selling much faster than they can build them, no current 7 seater available, no hybrids except one model that was built with Toyota agreement/cooperation

I have 3 car payments left and I'm pretty pumped about an extra $263 every month.

I don't know if I can stomach the idea of a car payment again. Probably the biggest reason I keep putting money in my truck. Until my yearly maintenance ticks over $2500, anyway.

Yeah, it definitely sucks, especially when you're not a "car person". Hoping mine can survive a bit longer but it's becoming more unreliable.

Mine hasn't broken down since the alternator died about 5 years ago. But something needs replaced every inspection now. Last year it was the fill pipe for the fuel tank and the rear spring mounts that rusted through and punched the bed. This year it was the rear shocks leaking and the radiator mount (which was welded in place because Ford didn't need it to last more than 10 years) which has a book time of 10 manhours to replace.

Oh and the AC system needed a valved replace and recharged, and the blower resistor switch was bad so the fan only worked on high. Now though, instant cold air at any desired speed. The high life, boys!
