Like a lot of things, it feels like poor messaging from the Democrats.

Yeh, it could be shown with a simple graph. I think Biden pointed out in the debate that the economy was humming when Trump took over, but I never see the media cover it.

The drop offs in the libraries don't open for a little bit yet. There is one in West Chester though at the government services building.

Thanks! I'll probably wait until the 13th and drop it off at my library

Me too. The whole "naked ballot" thing is pretty clearly explained and hard to fuck up imo. I hope all that media attention didn't scare people off of them

Right? It's all clearly marked and you have everything you need in the envelope

have you ever worked with someone who can't read or has a learning disability? Directions are one of the hardest things for them to do. High school students are terrible at it, even when it's very clear, and my students are literate. Lots of people will make mistakes with it, I would bet. And the Prez is very willing to challenge everything, even when the intent is clear.

If we're taking "Trump might challenge anything" out of the equation, what do you want people to do?

You can vote in person with a mask.

You can vote by mail if you can follow instructions.

Around here, you can go to one of these satellite offices that was just set up, get the ballot, turn it right back in to someone, and assuredly can ask questions of any staff if you have them. What else can be done to help people vote? At some point you have to figure it out. Nobody said you have to vote by mail if you can't read instructions.

Man, please don’t even breathe that. It’s a reminder that he’s 78 years old and could fall over dead at any minute. Kind of thought that was something that was pretty rare these days what with all the advancements in technology, but so many of my friends’ fathers have gone that way - and my own.

It’s scary as fuck to think about it. He absolutely must make it to January 20, 2021 at 12PM.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like (modern- era) former Presidents live for a long, long time

Yes... but that doesn't mean they have to. One of my friends Dads was plenty wealthy and was playing racquetball at his club... and then he was dead. Another was similarly very wealthy and was a religious jogger... and one day in his driveway he was dead.

Shit happens.

So what you’re saying is don’t exercise.

You know I was taking a walk an it occurred to me that Joe Biden, should he win and become President, would then be eligible for a second term, at the end of which he would be 86.

86!

That is... too old. Too old and everybody knows it's too old.

This should be an easy, winning point for Trump - perhaps almost a decisive point. Certainly he could corner him in a debate easily with it: "Joe, you'll be 86 if you win two terms. 86! Will you commit to one term right now?"

That leaves Biden two options:

(1) Commit to it, and admit a lame duck presidency and effectively a vote for Biden = a vote for Kamala, before the election is over. Win for Trump.
(2) Refuse, and the threat remains of a president well into his 80s... if he lives. If he doesn't, still Kamala. And now you've called attention to it.

And yet... Trump says nothing about this.

I guess this is because in order to use this he would first need to admit the possibility that Biden could win, which his ego will not permit him to do - and thus, his own megalomania denies him a compelling argument for many not to vote for Joe.

The question is: will one of the remaining moderators raise the issue? Hard to imagine they won't. You'd have to assume Trump would then go in for the kill.

This prospect is terrifying.

Yeah my point was the media and social media attention paid to the "naked ballot" may have been counterproductive. The instructions are plain as day.

I mean ... pretty much. If you can't understand the instructions and don't bother to ask for help you would've probably fucked your in-person vote up, too.

I was just pointing out why some people might have trouble with the directions. The other posters were saying it was simple, but I don't think it's simple for everyone. And many people will think they are doing it correctly when they aren't. People are very bad at following instructions, even people with good educations.

It would be be shocked if he did, for sure. Worry about that all in a few years. Have a White House and Senate to win first.

Careful, that's pretty close to what Trump would say. Only the smart and educated should be able to vote. Let's not go down the eugenics road.

A bunch of leaked email exchanges between some Republican state lawmakers as they were making plans on how to politically maneuver their messaging during the earlier parts of COVID. Bunch of idiots.

Sure - well voters seem to have a lot of good options in PA this year, so that's a good thing.

Yes, it's the way it should be. I never thought I'd see a party trying so hard to keep people from voting, so options are good.

Yes, but that wasn't what I was saying. I'm just saying IQ isn't something that should be a prerequisite for voting.

The talk about Trump challenging the election reminds me of the Veep episode where her team argues during a recount that someone who filled out a mail in ballot as “Fuck Selina Meyer” should count for Meyer since it may have had a comma (“Fuck, Selina Meyer”) and the voter was just super excited about voting for her.

Heard Tyler Childers' song ‘Long Violent History’ this afternoon. For a twangy Appalachian the material is a bit of a shocker as he contrasts rural white culture to the events unfolding across America with the inequity and outright killing of back citizens with a supposition of what would happen if the situation was reversed. My music choice is mostly disassociated with Tyler Childers' genre and I suspect it slipped in as a recommendation because of John Prine, so it was jarring.

I'd give it a listen and wonder about what his core audience might be thinking when they hear the song. To me I am thinking that I might be able to be optimistic that America might be changing.
