Biden in Plain Sight: Politics

It's just sad to think her last few years were spent on the court just trying to hold on until a President could nominate a similar judge. She deserved better and we shouldn't have justices dying on the bench if we can avoid it.

With this being 2020, Breyer will probably kick the bucket next week.

Incredible that only one of those 6 republican appointments will have come from a President who won the majority of votes in an election. 30 years and it is clear that the majority of Americans did not vote for this. Yet, in arguably the most powerful branch of our government will be entrenched with the minority. It is broken.

I don’t think the founding fathers would agree. This was set up as a republic but a true democracy

i generally support packing the courts in theory but its a double edged sword. whenever a conservative gets in power they'd just do the same shit. slippery slope, even tho i hate the term.

Better to be the one who fires the nuke first

Yup, we are "over the hill" as a democratic nation and already flying down that slippery slope. It's just a matter of time before the GOP expands the courts. Dems best do it first. Eventually the court-packing will grow intolerable for both sides and some sort ot bi-partisan legislation or Constitutional amendment will pass to limit the size of each level of the federal court system.

It also crossed my mind that, even though it seems a ridiculous thought at the moment, we may live to see the drafting of a new Constitution because the current one was only effective when people of good will represented us in the Senate. Even 25 years ago the Senate was largely a centrist body. Now it is just a smaller House of Reps.

Frankly I’m tired of Rs shifting everything so far right and Ds working to move things back to normalcy (the middle) when they’re in power. F that. Ds should swing it all the way over and make Rs move it back to the middle.

Dubya did not win the popular vote in 2000.

He won it in 04 and they were appointed after that but doing it as the incumbent is soft.

Statehood first PR and DC should now be a day one focus for Dems. Losing the court in the short term sucks but making it significantly more difficult for this to all happen again long term is far better.

Simple as that.

Vote for our republic people.

Someone stole my Biden yard sign last night. Didn’t touch my other two. There are three others around me and two of those were stolen as well and someone from a neighboring town posted on a local message board hers was stolen as well. So I’m guess some loser drove around for hours last night stealing only Biden signs, since it’s only Biden I’m also assuming it wasn’t a high school kid, it was a grown ass adult who loves trump so much he felt he needed to do that. What a fucking loser.

I mean I treat this place as a place where I am talking to friends at this point. Stupid, I know, but my brief foray into a political career is over. I am serving out my term on the school board and that's it.

So last night I was upset. I am still upset this morning, and deeply, deeply worried about what is going to come next.

So this week we had a COVID team member tell stories about how little Trump cares about the citizenry, Trump try monkey math with the virus deaths to delete dead Americans because they lived in States that did not vote for him and in his mind he's got the best numbers in the galaxy without them, the AG compare lockdowns and restrictions to slavery, and then the tragedy of ginsburg's death become some kind of popup political theater. Depressing.

Agree on DC, but PR needs to be allowed to decide for itself. The problem there is that the people of PR haven't been able to self-determine in over a century, so dictating that they've now become a state isn't much better.

Right. Bush isn't president for a second term in this hypothetical of no electoral college.

I have been watching a couple of excellent 20+ hour docs on the 20th Century in the past month:

The Cold War (CNN)

The People's Century (BBC/PBS)

Both aired in the late 90s and are available on YouTube.

I know some of you are sick of me trying to find a reason to be grateful for being alive in 2020, but here goes:

I would take enduring a lifetime of 2020s over a single day of trench warfare during WWI. Watching the vets describe their experiences really drives home what constitutes true hell on earth and gives a man a sense of perspective.
