No chance on Graham. He needs his base to turn out for him. Ditto GA.

Collins not voting is the only chance she has of re-election

I think the four you need are Collins, Gardner, Murkowski, and Romney. But the problem with Collins and Gardner is that their vote is entirely tied to the election, and if they lose, there's nothing stopping them from confirming in a lame-duck.

I mean, just another couple months, that's all that was needed. Fuck 2020.

Here’s the political needle Mitch needs to thread - adding a justice without losing the senate and presidency.

Here’s my guess - they float that they’re gonna do it and see what it does in polling. I think this could tip the scales heavily against republicans in swing states.

I really think there is a zero chance Collins is voting based on her views on women’s rights. Plus this next nomination will make Gorsuch look like Thurgood Marshall

Yes, there are some silver linings to be found. These next six weeks will be nothing short of monumental.

I think it's almost a guarantee that something from this election, most likely Trump contesting, will make it to the supreme court. We'll really need roberts to cast his vote on our side. I forget what happens in a tie.

Just devastating.

When she was hospitalized a few weeks ago and then was released, I thought she was going to make it. That was the first time in the last few years that I thought she wouldn't die until after Trump was gone (assuming he loses).

It's amazing, perhaps too amazing, how often things just seem to go Trump's way to save his ass over and over again.

They're not gonna appoint anyone before the election. Not after they basically won the last one based on an open seat.

Trying to wrap my head around the political calculus of this...

At this point, a lot of your gettable "swing voters" are low information undecideds and anti-Trump Republicans. The low info types probably don't understand the significance of the Supreme Court and the anti-Trump Republicans want conservative justices. With the exception of R senators in blue states like Gardner and Collins, not sure I see the political downside for McConnell and Trump here.

As for Roberts, Vox had a good piece today about how openly contemptuous he is of voting rights. He is unlikely to be an ally here.

Yup, if we win Dems are gonna have to pack that court with Mitch Garland being the first nominee.
