He’ll leave it to the governors.

lol he'll completely fuck it up like everything else. He's already stripped the shit out of FEMA resources.

Yes, it does seem unlikely he won't fuck it up. I would suggest some people around him might help him do well with it, but I think all the competent people are gone.

I'm just nervous because his one talent. other than marketing, might be escaping unscathed his whole life.

This would be a tough situation even for a competent administration--the storm became a lot worse than anyone expected in the last 24 hours. Just driving around here, no one really seems to understand what a tropical storm can do and it seems few people are taking basic precautions. I went to pick up charcoal (since it's the only way I can cook if we lose electricity) and was expected the kind of shopping you get when a little snow is predicted but it was basically an ordinary Wednesday afternoon. (Though Lil' Vulture is prepared--she's charged up all her back up phone batteries.) This is going to be pretty bad.

I do think Cal is right--the best thing Trump could do is cancel tomorrow night's convention. But I doubt he'll even manage to get that right.

Yeah, no f'ing way he's going to cancel his evening of self-glorification. I'd be shocked if he even mentions it tomorrow night.

Sort of a crossover post from what should be in the COVID thread, but I thought I dreamed that the CDC backed off people who need to be tested and do not recommend people who are first person exposures. My wife thought that the US was running out of tests, but I think that since its RNC season that this is a political play, especially since the news was released after mid-night without any press conference or anything.

Fauci said that the supposed meeting that the task force had on it was when he was under general anesthesia. Adm. Giroir said, basically, that Fauci is a liar since Giroir said that Facui signed off on it.

@radleybalko
Apparently, Pence was planning to criticize "taking a knee" in his speech tonight. The Milwaukee Bucks just put their own livelihoods on the line for their cause. Contrast to Pence, who once spent $325K of taxpayer dollars to make a show of angrily walking out on an NFL game.

This unrest plays right into trump and an unpopular position - defunding police. Biden needs to take this moment or it may cost him.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

Didn't really go that way in June? Trump will just say some evil shit and remind people of who he is again.

If he says nothing about COVID and focuses just on police, his numbers will continue to improve as they have this past month. They’ve figured out that staying away from COVID or at least not saying anything stupid Is enough.

I find it curious how these flashpoint events of police brutality have occurred in the critical swing states of WI and MN.

Is it a coincidence, or are these the premeditated acts of Trumpist police officers who are intentionally stoking racial tensions in the hopes it will help DJT get re-elected?

I think Trump leaving the WH and passing on a convention speech (or shifting the speech to be a hurricane relief focus) would be the best political move he could ever possibly make. It’s sitting there on a platter.

Same for Biden to a certain extent. Deep red state that won’t vote for him but gives him a presidential oppty if Trump decides to stay at WH.

Biden and Harris should be in Kenosha tomorrow and Lake Charles on Friday. But what do I know.

I really don't think that anyone who is not currently in any position of authority should be in either place. Doling so is just grandstanding .

Meadows co-sponsored multiple pieces of legislation intended to strengthen punishments for violations of the law, and was a hawkish investigator of purported Hatch Act violations by minor members of the Obama administration.

That was then.

I know public speaking is hard but Lara Trump and so many others during the RNC should take some classes.

They don't do it for a living. It's nepotism. It's what happens when you place your friends and family in positions of power. It's a microcosm of his whole administration. It doesn't matter if someone is talented or knowledgeable. All that matters is if they love the emperor.
