2,000 tons of fertilizer right next to a fireworks factory. This is what happens when there are no regulations.

Roger Marshall is got to win the GOP primary for US Sen in KS. Probably makes that one impossible to win for the Dems. Shucks.

I cannot remember the last time I was surprised in a good way in a Republican primary. Kobach losing, and losing badly, is very nice.

I shoulda put this in another thread since the explosion doesn't appear political at this point but...

If the reports are corrects this explosion had like 10,000 times the amount of ammonium nitrate as the OKC Murrah Building.

I can believe it. Devastation was amazing. Probably belongs in the local Beirut politics thread for mismanagement of the port.

An slight opening in KS would have been nice but Dems still have a lot of options beyond the big 4 (CO, AZ, ME, NC)

I think that I am beginning to understand the strategy behind Trump's talking points. He can only operate in very few modes, so any numbers of scale are bad. Big numbers are scary and he represents a lot people and gets scared and confused by these. Lots of tests = lots of positive cases because lots of numbers. Lots of votes = lots of bad results (for him) because of numbers. It is the same train on the same tracks, just a different car in his limited view.

NPR wrote: "If we all anticipate that accurate vote counts, with a higher volume by mail, or for any reason, for a pandemic or for civil unrest, take longer because it takes longer to make sure the count is accurate, then that's the opposite of a disaster.

That is correct, more votes will take longer to count and more votes is representation of the population so that is a positive, but through the word blender it is something that is ominous and confusing when married with his standard fare rhetoric it becomes a threat.

His take is :

Trump wrote:"Must know Election results on the night of the Election, not days, months, or even years later!"

That is likely untrue at the extremes (it likely is a week or two), and sounds like an assault on the country. Factually the first United States presidential election was held from Monday, December 15, 1788 to Saturday, January 10, 1789, so we've been here before.

Saw this on twitter and thought it was pretty interesting, especially regarding Barbara Lee. Basically a vote tracker for "progressives."

I don't live in the district anymore, but I imagine Houlahan is safe despite that rating of uh... zero.

Change of plans for the convention as Biden won't be traveling to MIlwaukee to give his speech.

It’s the right move. They just can’t take any chance Biden gets sick.

[not politics] I have a keen eye for forensic evidence and believe I can spot the epicenter of the Beirut explosion. Read my newsletter for details.

I just now watched the explosion. Holy moly, can you imagine witnessing that mushroom cloud and not considering even for a moment that some yahoo just dropped a mini nuke on your ass? Terrifying.

Yeah I'd consider myself a Chester County Democrat (pro choice, same sex marriage, sensible gun control while respecting 2A, generally like Houlahan), but I even appear to be left of her which is pretty wild. When I worked on the 156 State House race in 2012 we were actually describing our candidate to people as a Rockefeller Republican because he sort of liked that lingo. Times change.
