How much of this was done under the presumption that this mayor, owing to her already being in office and the presumed political contacts that brings, can raise the most money? Because let me tell you that is all the HDCC give a fuck about. They act like they are there to help, and they are... if you don't need any financial help. If you are raising it hand over fist, then they cough up more.

But the undoubtedly worst part of running for office is "dialing for dollars." It's horrible.

The name recognition was huge for the people voting. And the perception that people will give her money because of that. All the institutional money would have been there for whoever won. However there was another candidate that has money lined up, moreso than she is capable. Union, mostly. If you saw his list of endorsements you'd understand. It was led by Rendell, Conor Lamb and Joe Torsella. Why those folks wasted political capital, I do not know. He is a polarizing, generally toxic person.

There is this belief that the R candidate has a shot here. He's awful. Still has no website. The write up on him on the County GOP page is 90 percent about his activities doing pro-life stuff. He is a big Trump guy too.

Cal, that’s awesome that you did that, I really admire the effort and balls it took for you to do that. It really takes a lot to put yourself out there like that, wish there were more people with your spirit and values who were willing to do so. I’m sure it won’t be your last dance.

As for the R candidate, I don’t know anything about him but this

Makes me hate him with every fiber of my being.

As far as the election is concerned, one thing I take a perverse solace in is that it’s just as possible Trump & Co. will have made things worse by November as it is things will be better. Of course for the sake of the country I hope that’s not the case but, if things are worse, it will make it that much more probable we’ll be rid of this monster — and maybe even have taken the Senate!

From the last thread
thephan wrote:The Daily Beast: GOP House Candidate Insists George Floyd Killing Was Staged.

she lays out her conspiracy theory in a 23-page document where she states that Floyd is alive and that none of the officers are actually real people but composites. but just when you think that that's batshit crazy, then you learn that she believes that chavin is actually played by the cash cab guy. Only the finest people, I'm sure when she loses she will be given a high-ranking position within the White House until they get around to taking out the trash when Trump gets exited.

Trump is definitely the person to try and bribe the public with a bail out... I just wonder if/when he resorts to that the GOP is still full throatily backing him or punting until 2022/24 elections.

I think trying to pass a second round of checks to win an election is refreshingly normal. Furthermore, I think only a new round of cash payments to voters moves the needle at all. I wonder though if behind the scenes some Republicans are discouraging this in favor of even more deregulation and tax cuts.

Those numbers are obviously encouraging. I just glanced at the NC numbers though--the poll was taken from Jun 8 to Jun 18. That's a long period of time, and a week ago, during the demonstrations. I actually think though that since Trump's approval rating has declined since then, things may be even better for Biden.

Someone on NPR a few days go said that, pick one: Imploded economy, Failed response to COVID, Inept response to opioids (remember that? just sort of walked away), Coal miners losing jobs, Failed trade war costing farmers, Follies in foreign policy making the world a more dangerous place for Americans and American interests, Overt corruption, etc. would have doomed any other administration. America is sicker, poorer, less respected, more unemployed, and viewed as a unreliable partner. The president has failed to make good on most of his promises, some not due to his direct action, but his inability to lead. Still somehow consistently ~40% are still on board.

See you guys are getting me all excited so that I must keep reminding myself that the only polls that matters are the ones they take on November 3rd and Donald Trump still has a great chance of winning all the ones he needs even as Biden wins CA and NY 99-1 or whatever.

There was an article a few weeks back that said the most reliable poll wasn't the one that asked who people would vote for, but rather it was the one that asked who people thought would win.

Tom Cotton is really blowing that dog whistle while opposing DC statehood.

Read on Twitter that we should get ready to transition from #NeverTrump to #NeverCotton.

It may be fortunate that the last gasp of white racists holding power through the GOP was with someone as comically incompetent as Trump. Cotton could do 10x the damage.

The future of America is dependent, thankfully, on changing demographics that will make the old racists less and less influential.
