Covid-19 - Opening gates. Find higher ground.

"The food supply chain is breaking," wrote board chairman John Tyson in a full-page advertisement published Sunday in The New York Times,
US farmers don't have anywhere to sell their livestock, he said, adding that "millions of animals — chickens, pigs and cattle — will be depopulated because of the closure of our processing facilities."

Depopulated? Really?

Why do the "under 65 w/no pre-existing conditions" crowd make up a six times larger percentage of COVID deaths in the US than in the Netherlands?

I find that fairly unnerving.

federal report out speculating that the counts are WAY low. they compared the death rates with the expected death rates (without covid) and there's apparently a huge gap. i just read the headline, so i don't know the numbers.

Depopulated? Really?

It's a familiar word to rural and farming communities.

Saw something similar on twitter illustrating the same thing in other countries.

Disturbing when you think our 3rd leading cause of death (accidents) must be down significantly.

Pretty good numbers day for PA. 800 some new cases and fewer deaths than recently.

I posted in the work thread for god knows what reason, but NJ today 'only' had 106 deaths vs. 175 last Monday. Yesterday's deaths were also much lower than the previous Sunday. So either tomorrow is going to be awful, or things are improving more rapidly than I would've expected.

My rough guess would be because we're fat and unhealthy. You're right, that is unnerving.

has there been anything out there about WHO is contracting it and HOW they're contracting it?

is it all just lumped in the amalgous blob of 'community spread?"

Is it supply chain workers? Is it Health Care workers? Is it just elderly in facilities?

My wife and I are arguing right now bc she wants to go see her stepmother who is really close to passing away. She wants to wear a mask our neighbor made, like go right there right now and just put it on and go see her stepmother. She's at home but has had nurses and aides in and out 24/7 and we have no idea if anyone has been exposed. It's not a heated argument but we are going back and forth

anecdotal evidence suggest lots of assisted living/rehab facilities/senior living has been hit along with rural states big supply chain type jobs (tyson for example).

It will be interesting to see. Clearly the number of cases detected running up to this date haven't really declined much, but that could be more due to expanded testing detecting less severely infected people. Or, not. Could be that death doesn't schedule great, along with the usual bureaucratic idiosyncrasies of the weekend. Certainly hoping it's a trend.

Gov. Wolf says starting May 1, PA golf courses, marinas, guided fishing trips and privately owned campgrounds may reopen statewide, using "life-sustaining business" guidance supplied by Wolf administration to help them operate safely.

can you possibly find an N95 mask anywhere? Put it out on your nextdoor and describe the circumstances and see if any neighbors might have one??
