I don’t think you understand national polling and how it includes opinions from many different places (psst the USA is big) with many different people with many different exposures to truth/fiction. How people interpret the question will differ. Many probably look at it internally - I’m ok, my fridge is packed, I’m not sick, same with my friends - he must be doing good.

Additionally, crises generally result in near term bumps to approval ratings.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

I think this is the long and the short of it.

As cases skyrocket, deaths mount and people get fucking sick of being inside and realize their $1200 isn't going to pay the rent + bills + food + whatever, I think any gap between Trump's job approval and Trump's Coronavirus job approval will disappear or invert.

But in the short term he's definitely getting the benefit of the doubt. Most people don't follow news like people who post in this thread do. Normal people aren't on Twitter. The top watched cable news shows are viewed by less than 1% of Americans in a given night. If you're deeply interested in politics, you need to work hard to adjust your expectations for what poll results among normals show.

That said the benefit of the doubt he's getting on job approval is not translating to the ballot - see Fox's poll today. All time high on job approval, down 9! to Biden in the ballot. Which is part of why I think he's in increasingly bad shape for re-election.

Right. And all the woke people who were creaming to do something in February and early March may have dominated twitter feeds, but were by no means the dominant voice in the country. Most people didn't really wake up to anything until the President went on tv and said "this is serious and I knew it all along." To them he's being effective. Now the flip side of not really understanding the situation is that you get really impatient when things don't turn out your way very quickly, so that could very well rebound against the Trump if things drag on, as I hope they don't , but seems likely they do.

Got a g-10 permit piece of mail with President Trump's Coronavirus Guidelines for America. It seems like the USG is paying for campaign materials.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the administration’s most outspoken advocate of emergency virus measures, faces a torrent of false claims that he is mobilizing to undermine the president.

Lately there’s been a pipeline from the fringe online right to mainstream right wing media to Trump’s mouth. For example, YouTube psychos like Molyneux started describing homeless people in California in dehumanizing terms, then a little less than a year ago Tucker picked it up. Late last year Fox and Friends started running segments about it, and now Donald routinely talks about it. Not sure if this is organic or driven by behind the scenes people who move freely between these circles. If Fox and Friends or the prime time hosts start bashing Fauci, it’ll be interesting to see how long he lasts.

Almost typed "even he can't be that stupid" but then I remembered.

If Fox and Fiends run it up the flagpole and the base salutes I'm not sure if anyone can change his mind.

If that happens, I hope Fauci announces publicly and often how much of a idiot Trump is and how Fauci had to constantly fight for common sense. There must be tons of anecdotes he can share by now. I also wonder if his emails are considered classified because I bet there are emails that show what he's been up against.

As I said before, I can't wait to see what the freedom of information requests show for this time period, both in terms of Trump's stupidity and the grifting that is no doubt taking place with the virus as a cover.

Trump has reversed course on making Vice President Mike Pence the public face of the response, instead taking center stage himself in daily press briefings, which have had the viewership of a major sporting event. He has branded the administration’s response as his own, not that of the public health experts, as with a direct mail piece sent out this week by the Centers for Disease Control promoting “President Trump’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America.

On Saturday, with most Americans confined at home, Trump traveled on Air Force One to Norfolk, Virginia for a photo opportunity and ceremony for a Navy hospital ship heading to New York.

I kinda disagree with the premise of the article. I'm not sure Trump has been held to account for anything that he has done either before or during his presidency. Everything (bad) is ALWAYS somebody else's fault and his supporters certainly see it that way. "This Wuhan Flu is Obama's fault. If he hadn't of blah, blah, blah" or "If the Chinese had given us more notice and not lied..." both of which completely glosses over the fact that Trump "streamlined" Obama's pandemic response team (formally the Global Health Security and Biodefense unit of the National Security Council) in 2018 and the fact that Trump waited until January 31 to issue his half-assed, China-only travel restrictions.

I'll rest my case with Exhibits A and B:

Trump bristled when asked about his decision to disband the office at a news conference in the Rose Garden on Friday.
“I just think it's a nasty question,” the president responded. “And when you say ‘me,' I didn't do it. ... I don't know anything about it.”

and

“I don't take responsibility at all."

She from Lancaster county. Went to Lampeter-Strausburg. She's done good things in her career. She's just not as slick as Fauci or confident enough to just with Trump.
