He is warning that his colleagues may be wise to no come to the defense of Donald Trump so quickly because there is a lot in the whistleblower complaint.

I bet a coworker that Trump will not win the 2020 election. He also was eager to bet that Trump will win the highest proportion of minority votes for any Republican presidential candidate in our lifetime. I limited to the 1 bet.

It's funny, I've never judged someone for their support of a candidate before Trump. Support Bush, Kerry, Obama, Mitt, etc. Reasonable people can disagree. I'm a conservative, and I don't think I'll ever view a wearer of a Maga hat as someone without deep flaws. Sometimes I question whether I've changed more, or if it's other people who have changed.

I'm really going to be interested to see how the polling on impeachment evolves over time. Democrats are going to have to bring people along on it, and to that end support for it should slowly creep up a bit. I don't know that we're ever going to see a polling-based majority for removal from office, but I think there's more to that number than simply saying Americans are against impeachment and removal. For one, I'm sure there's a pretty significant group of people that simply think that it should be resolved in the election rather than via impeachment. Plus, as we've already established, Trump has at least a 30% base who probably would support him if they stood in front of him and watched him shoot puppies one by one next to the White House christmas tree, so really you're just polling the rest of the country on impeachment.

Is Trump purposefully trying to implicate Pence to protect himself from Senate Rs who would like to get rid of him but not at the cost of President Pelosi? Just can’t figure out why else he would bring that up. If so, I think he wildly underestimates his position; I don’t see a way to 2/3rds in the Senate no matter what he did.

I do think it needs to be emphasized that even if you want to deny the quid pro quo aspect by claiming circumstantial evidence, Trump, by asking Ukraine to investigate is colluding with a foreign government, asking Ukraine to interfere with our election.

He texted me the transcript of the call. I'm 99% sure he believes it exonerates the President.

If that is all there is, this was a wasted bullet IMHO, unless the Dems quickly find there is not enough for impeachment and move on (unlikely). Every time you start an impeachment inquiry that goes nowhere, you lose credibility.

This will never be enough to garner the necessary votes.
