How can there be ANYONE at a bus stop? Visual evidence indicates EVERY SINGLE KID is driven to school in a personal vehicle.

I think that Bucky and other have substantiated that kids get driven to the bus stop these days. I am puzzled that I have seen two people drive their kids to the stop in front of my house on my security camera, but I have no idea where they drive from. There are not too many houses between me and the school. They've been there every day.

on my way to work the other day saw a bus pick up kids at the end of their driveway that ran along side their neighbors yard. the bus then drove the length of the yard (30 feet?) and picked up kids in the next driveway.

try telling me that there isnt something wrong with america these days!

I am already at work when that bus comes. They actually seem to be driving in from another part of the neighborhood based on where my house is (first home), and the direction that they arrive at (from the feeder road). Its strange. I mean if you are doing that, just cover the extra half mile to the school.

Truth. Last year my son was in the intermediate school and my daughter was in the elementary school. They share an entrance off the road but each school has its own parking lot/driveway/bus drop offs, but the same buses go to both schools. The school days start at the same time. So in order to drop them both off you have to get on car line at one, wait all the way through and drop off, then drive to the other school and get in that car line. It sucked a lot. You had to cross across the main entrance driveway to get from one school to the other and incoming traffic from the road doesn’t stop.

This year I actually drive past my daughters school on my way to work, but she takes the bus cause I’m not dealing with that shit

I filled up a glass with water and ice, and when I picked it up, the bottom completely fell out from it. Never seen that happen before.

Growing up, I took the bus from first grade (I didn't go to public kindergarten) through fifth. Don't remember my parents ever being at the stop; maybe the first day of first grade, but I don't recall.

At our place in Lansdale, the elementary school my kids went to was right in the center of the neighborhood; I think everyone who went to the school lived within 3/4 mile. There was no busing by the district at all. My kids went to the Y for daycare and they were bused but that was later in the morning so we never had the bus stop thing to deal with.

At our new place we're about 2.5 miles from the elementary school (and the middle school which my eldest now goes to). So the kids take the bus. There are always parents at the bus stop even for the middle/high school bus, but my wife and I only went out with the kids for the first day of school. What I find weird is that in our little neighborhood (52 houses total) there are three stops. If there were just a single stop down where the neighborhood meets the main road, nobody would have to walk as much as half a mile.

Changing subjects somewhat, do kids anywhere ride their bikes to school anymore?

I rode my bike to school every day from sixth grade through high school. This was a long time ago though, in a particularly bike-friendly town (Corvallis) in a famously bike-friendly state (Oregon). Going to middle school I had to cross a highway, but at a controlled intersection, and otherwise it was an easy ride.

To ride to school, my kids would have to cross one major road with poor visibility, ride along another fairly busy road that both has little to no shoulders and is twisty, cross a major highway (with a light), then ride along another busy-ish road with no shoulder. And once they got there I'm not sure there are any bike racks to lock up to.
