I think this his most racist tweet yet. He doesn't even bother trying to hide it any longer:

Though i know it's a serious topic... can't help when I hear ICE raids thinking of some booming soundsystem playing Ice Ice Baby while Vanilla Ice leads troops into cities... just a random visual
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

And his base is eating it up and asking for thirds. Also, the Trump administration could give any of the governments he is talking about a run for its money in the corruption race.

AOC knocked off a 10-term incumbent member of the Democratic leadership at 28 years old. She was a member of Congress at 29. I'm just speculating here, but I would imagine she is at the very least one of the ten most famous members of Congress. She's driven national conversation on issues and terrifies the right unlike maybe any other figure in Democratic politics. In contrast, Bernie was a little-known, cranky backbencher until he was 74. I'm pretty sure AOC knows what she's doing and is going to be fine.

Maybe she never becomes president or speaker. Almost no one does. If she can work toward a paradigm shift in the ways our country thinks about health care, criminal justice, the military, etc. I would call her incredibly successful.

the collective center right and further have been trying to gaslight the public at large on alexandria ocasio-cortez since she was elected. a valiant effort on their part to try and smear her this early in her career but i think her popularity will only grow the younger the democratic base gets.

Labeling a freshman member of Congress "incredibly successful" is a bit of a reach. She's a 29 year old freshman and it shows. 2020 ain't about her and the rest of the freshmen. They clearly don't understand American politics. If the Dems want to split themselves up over that then good luck winning in 2020. Four more years of Trump will kill the country and the Dems as a party. It would be a spectacular failure.

How much younger? Younger than 18 who can't vote? The only reason we have Trump is because the younger voters threw a hissy fit and decided to stay home. Legit took their ball and went home and now we're paying for it. Counting on an apathetic, spoiled generation is a waste of resources.

Most serious analysis of the 2016 election points to multiple reasons for the outcome, but it was the late interference of Comey combined with a weak 'incumbent' in Clinton that failed to bring out Democratic-leaning voters that swung those key states, including PA. Clinton also ran a horrible campaign. The election was always going to be close due to the third term phenomenon, but the failure of the Democratic nominee to understand how to convey the threat and actually tie it in with real economic unease was pretty bad. I wouldn't blame non-voters for this. I do think many media outlets also failed miserably in positing too much sameness between the two candidates when the visions of both were incredibly different. Swap Trump with Rubio or Cruz or whoever and I'm not sure we see much of a different election result if Comey still does what he does and Clinton still runs such a poor campaign.

anyway, i'm more than ready for Pelosi to announce she's done as Speaker and will 'pass on the baton' and to actually define what is actually at stake here. Her weak responses and HER lack of unity and inability to reach out to a burgeoning section of the party speaks pretty poorly of her political skills. she's failed. It's over for her. It'd be better for all of us, whether we are Democrats or not, if she realizes that sooner than later.

You just blamed Comey and you want Pelosi to step down for her weak response to entitled freshmen. I'm no fan of Nancy but to question her political skills is nuts. She didn't become speaker from weak political skills, especially when she plays Don like a fiddle. When Trump wins 2020, don't ask why.

Well that certainly seems like a fair response to my attempt to reconcile the results of the 2016 election and our current political situation.

It's about 2020 now. You can blame 2016 on Comey or Hillary or whomever. Bernie people stayed home. What's going to be the excuse in 2020 when the progressives also decide to stay home again when they don't get their way?

At this point, I'm not even pissed at Trump concerning his racist tweets today and prior...

I'm more upset that not ONE Republican Senator or Congressman, besides Amash who left the party, has condemned the remarks.

You brought up 2016 so I responded. There's no real evidence 'Bernie people' stayed home. I was initially upset with some anecdotes about friends I knew, but most research shows it more from the coalition Obama created in 2008 stayed home. People who voted Bernie in the primary came out for Clinton at higher rates than people who voted Clinton in 08 came out for Obama. In the end, Obama created a new coalition that Clinton didn't energize for a variety of reasons.

We need to find ways to energize them and galvanize even more people and then keep them engaged past November 2020 if we want to enact real change to help millions and millions of people. I think the way to do that is decidedly not what Pelosi is currently doing. Others may disagree, that's what it's all about, I guess.

And of course the natural Dem reaction is to pull to the far left. So both parties alienate most of American voters. Thus screwing most us once again.

This really is the crux of what we all need to realize, I think: the GOP itself is a big problem. Defeating Trump will not mean that this all goes away and we reset, a la what Biden is alleging. Millions of people who are authoritarian-minded will remain. Their elected politicians will remain in school boards, at county commissioner tables, and in the halls of the General Assembly and Congress. How will the rest of us react to this? With meek politics that aren't appropriate for the moment? I sure hope as hell not.

And this is why Trump will win re-election. The Democrats never believe in cutting the head off the snake.

I didn't state anywhere above that we shouldn't concentrate on defeating him. It's just that if we don't have a real plan on how to take power and use it when we do, we'll simply be back here with a new demagogue within 4-8 years. We swept into power in 2009 on many levels and quickly lost it on every level due to simply not being prepared for the onslaught that came. Obama picked an utterly terrible chief of staff that had a terrible strategy on just about everything. Obama eventually figured it out but by then there wasn't much support on state or federal levels so he had to rely on too much executive powers that could be undone by his successor. We can't do the same stuff and expect different results.

I've been kinder to Pelosi than most but I think I'm done with her glory days-ing 'I got the ACA passed' from a decade ago. She shows time and time again these days that she is not the right person to be leading this party in 2019 and beyond. Schumer too.
