Trump would never get impeached - and if he did - it gets worse - President Pence

It’s one big reality TV show with major implications - glad I’m in Aruba and could just sit on the beach and follow the Phils

What's the line on Democrats taking over the White House in 2020? I can't imagine that either a successful impeachment or an unsuccessful impeachment would increase the probability much. Mostly downside. Republicans wouldn't have to talk themselves into Pence.

Luke warm takes:

- Mueller seemed sort of diminished at times, not the lion he was reported to be.
- Then again, as he was mostly entrenched in his position of the "four corners", maybe he just left the fight at home.
- It became painfully obvious that the high road has no value with this administration, of a large number of GOP members. A gutter brawl is what it will take to get him out.

The base will not turn out for a limp dick like pence. They've been fed red meat for too long

If dem leadership don't at least make the case for impeachment, they're ceding the stage/argument for trump to claim "they won't even START to impeach me bc I'm innocent."

Right now the democratic message is "trump is a criminal but we're just gonna wait for more reports and keep cruising til election 2020." It's a losing bet by a loser party and it only encourages trump to be even more unlawful

Impeach the motherfucker

Part of that first point was that they kept saying on page such and such and he'd spend minutes trying to find it just to confirm that the questioner could read.

He's also nearly 75 years old and just spent two grueling years on this while having his own party attack him at every conceivable moment. He didn't even want to testify as he made it abundantly clear what Congress's duty was and that his hands were mostly tied / it wasn't his job anyway.

I mean when stuff like this happened:

Joshua A. Geltzer
@jgeltzer
A summary of the Mueller Report, told in 2 yesses:

Vol. 1:

SCHIFF: “Trump & his campaign welcomed & encouraged Russian interference?”

MUELLER: “Yes.”

Vol. 1 into 2:

SCHIFF: “And then Trump & his campaign lied about it to cover it up?”

MUELLER: “Yes.”

I think I had a word choice problem. Diminished seems like the attack vector for calling him a feeble old man. Aside from him being 75 locking down old, his mental acuity seems fine. Cal and philliesphhan are correct that part of the stumbling, bumbling characterization is based on needing to deal with a monstrous volume of data and almost no one can cite chapter and verse from volumes like that (save a few super humans with photographic memory), therefore leading to the page flipping/word search. I think it would have more correct to say disengaged or stoic or some other descriptor to suggest that I expected a fight, at least a vigorous defense of his teams effort and the clarity that was delivered, but his choice was to almost curtly say 'take a look, its in the book' and pass on clarification or correction.

FWIW, I have had the displeasure of participating in a hearing on the Hill years ago, and it is grueling. It was a Senate affair, so fewer participants, but there is plenty of confusion over who is talking, there was not really anything to do other then try to parse out a question from those monologue moments, and it is stressful. My part was only in a preliminary hearing, they brought in the guy with the good title when we advanced to the CSPAN stardom round.

Unfortunately the Dems got the order wrong. They should have had intel first. Meuller clearly cares deeply for the FBI CI mission, and was a lot more engaged at that session. The problematic part of the order of events is that the moments cited happened deep into the "news" cycle where pundits were providing commentary from the morning, allowing these moments to be ignored for the sake of messaging to their core audiences. Hell, I am sure that TV audiences shrank substantially in the afternoon session.

DOJ says it won't prosecute Barr, Ross after criminal contempt vote

How is this even a headline? Of course they will not prosecute their boss.

Democrats tried to get consent to pass two bills that would require campaigns to alert the FBI and Federal Election Commission about foreign offers of assistance, as well as a bill to let the Senate Sergeant at Arms offer voluntary cyber assistance for personal devices and accounts of senators and staff.

But Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) blocked each of the bills.

These measures were introduced AFTER Meuller testified.

I think headlines like this - What Robert Mueller failed to do - are incredibly unfair. It would really be a shame if Mueller's reputation ends up tarnished because of the nearly impossible position Democrats put him in yesterday.

Possible suicide attempt by Epstein in jail............or he was assaulted.

Found semi-conscious in a fetal position in his cell.

Wouldn't be at all shock if someone knocks him off.

I have noproblem with his reputation being trashed. I realize he's an old school follow-the-rules type, but the current circumstances required something more from him. Producing a report and saying my job is over just doesn't cut it for me.

If I was trying to cover up something major like what happened in 2016, it would look a lot like this. Sorry, I don't buy that Mueller didn't consider himself a republican as much as an american at the end of the day. He and his very good friend Barr can now go off and have a laugh about what they pulled off. I know I'm out on a limb but I don't really care. There were multiple decisions that were made by mueller along the way and most of them made it easier for the GOP to get away with this.
