Nixon wasn't impeached. Never made it to the floor.

The House pushing for impeachment would be stupid. WTF would that accomplish?

an attempt at justice and bringing true light to crimes

It's extremely depressing that it's thought of as a "strategically" dumb move or whatever.

If they had started talking about it back in jan/feb there would be so much momentum. Instead they've over analyzed and listened to consultants so much that they have made themselves powerless.

Ultimately dems have no idea how to use their power even when they are in charge

Let's be real, no one's hearts or minds would be changed by impeachment proceedings. Dems live in reality, Republicans live in a fantasy world where Trump has been fully exonerated.

I don't think many Dems are going to sit at home next November, arms crossed, thinking "I'm not going to bother voting because the House failed to impeach Trump."

Dems live in wussy land and attack their own members who actually have some guts

Republicans live in a world where they are laser focused on acquiring, maintaining, and abusing power to attain their goals. And they're extremely good at redefining the rules as it suits them

Sure are.

Endlessly repeat the same lies over and over. The worst of them bring 4chan vile to the public sphere.

When asked if he did the right thing not agreeing to be interviewed:

"No, I did the right thing," he told reporters today, pointing to the number of individuals who were charged with lying to federal investigators. I saw what he did to people, how he ruined people's lives because they didn't remember a date or something very minor. He ruined people's lives," Trump said of Mueller. "So when you ask me that question, all they have to do is see how nice this weather is. If I made a mistake and I said I was talking to the media and it was a little bit rainy, a little bit overcast, they'd say well we have to do — he lied."

"I've seen how they've destroyed people like Gen. Flynn and so many others, what they've done to people," Trump said. "No, I did the right thing."

Yeah, all those people are going to prison because they forgot a date. Seriously, what a fucking imbecile. But his people love that he's an imbecile and not part of the "machine".

Pelosi can barely string words together to make sentences here.

boy, a Biden presidency with Pelosi leading the House sure would lose a lot of seats in 2022; might beat the record

Michael Cohen, watching from prison:

"Mr. Mueller today had the world stage to answer questions regarding obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Sadly, his reluctance just continues to leave the debate open and those responsible free from prosecution ... for the moment," he said. "The American people deserve more!" (emphasis mine)

"The allegations raised against me in the Steele dossier were blatant lies," Cohen said. "At least today's hearings confirmed this. If our elected officials want more information or clarification they know where to find me..."

He sure sounds like somebody who has more story to tell. Of course, he is a convicted liar, so......

If Dems start impeachment proceedings they will be even less effective than Mueller at getting key witnesses to appear. Witnesses who are subpoenaed will generally be hostile, will invoke their 5th Amendment rights against self-incrimination and will be instructed not to speak based on claims by the WH of Executive Privilege. Even if all those issues are litigated they will end up being decided by a SCOTUS which is 5-4 Republican so the results will likely be unfavorable to Dems and any impeachment proceedings.

At the end of a process of unwilling and uncooperative witnesses -- claiming Constitutional rights and privilege which claims will be ratified by the SCOTUS -- the Dems will have succeeded in getting little, if any, additional information, will have had their failures broadcast to the world, will look weak, ineffective and incapable of leading. Having accomplished nothing positive, the House will, nonetheless, vote for impeachment and send the results to the Senate for a pitiful, laughable and predictable defeat -- assuming McConnell doesn't find some way to block any trial.

The Dem base, so energized at the start, will realize that their party has just engineered and presided over a fiasco which, if anything strengthened the Republicans in general and Trump in particular. Demoralized, their turnout numbers will be mediocre at best while Republican voters, energized by a further display of power by their leaders, will lead the re-election of Trump.
