Trump said something today about no one who wants to be on the Supreme Court should lie to Congress, which sounded to me like his passive aggressive way of telling Brett Kavanaugh he was cooked and should withdraw.

Seeing GOP response rates on polling in the past week or so that I haven't seen all cycle. Actually having to weight down GOP responses.

Dunno if it lasts (it probably won't), but seems the Kavanaugh stuff has led to some differential response rates in the GOP's favor for the first time since the cycle has been engaged.

I don't think this means a ton for November, unless Kav fails & the base really gets behind the next pick, but would not be surprised at all to see some public polls that don't weight for party swing toward the GOP (in a way that isn't real) as this week moves along.

Not a tax practitioner but the entire scheme is very complicated (lot of SPEs and trusts involved), Fred Trump got "reputable" (or at least known) advisors willing to put in a lot of time on their position, and a lot of the valuations in particular would be difficult (or at least very resource intensive) for IRS to independently verify (ie, the reporter has the benefit of subsequent events giving an arms length value to many of the properties, as well as other apparent non public info). Not excuses for the government but difficult to deal with assholes who are willing to take big risks and can throw way more resources at it. And I'm sure a lot of the talented tax nerds who could sniff it out for the IRS would rather work on private side for way more $$ as well

I did read the whole article and one takeaway is that fred trump jr being a lush who got passed over by his scrooge mcduck unlimited ATM machine father potentially fucked the whole operation up for the U.S.

the statute of limitations for the IRS has elapsed

HOWEVER

there is the possibility for fraud charges since the Trumps used these purposely overinflated transactions to apply for rent hikes in rent controlled apartments

I realize that MS is backward AF but surely they know it is 2018 and the 2016 election is over?

I don't think Trump is being tactical because he's an idiot. But I do think he really doesn't care about Brett Kavanaugh personally at all ("he's a Bush guy..."). I think Kavanaugh going to be voted down by the full Senate and Trump will try to exploit it to bring out his side in the mid-terms. Just my take.
