This assumes both parties will follow established norms for governance and decency. These people aren't conservatives, they're authoritarians. They want it all and they will break any rule, norm, or law they need to get it. Good luck getting anything back once they're entrenched.
Note that they have been blaming the Chinese over the past few weeks for meddling in our elections. They'll try to swing the spotlight from russia to China. There will be shenanigans in November and we won't be able to reverse it. Kavanaugh will make the executive branch immune to any investigation and that will be that.
Seriously, we need to start assuming the worse case scenario because it sure looks like that scenario is what best matches up with reality.
