I do not think its controversial to say that sexual harassment/assault and power are inexorably linked and that men, by virtue of their size and general status in this world generally hold more of it.

No offense taken, but I also think that is an odd position to take in light of Calvin's comments. What I'm hearing from you is that it is not possible to sexually harass someone if you are unable to physically overpower that person. Neither of us would argue that. Sexual harassment is not to be confused with sexual assault and worse, and can exist independent from physical fear. If you've gone through some workplace training on sexual harassment, that was likely the emphasis of the training; sexual harassment is unwanted/inappropriate conversation, and it doesn't even have to be directed at the person who makes a claim.

I realize that I also shifted the conversation from sexual assault to sexual harassment, but that was to illustrate the point that unwanted sexual behavior is not limited to situations where the person can be physically overpowered.

That's not what, or not what I'm trying to say. Cal was sexually harassed and has a completely reasonable right to be upset by it. I've had similar happen to me and it kinda weirded me out too.

Taking Cal's example specifically, generally people would be more indignant if that happened the other way around (Cal and his group of unspeakable reprobate friends are drunk and one pinches a girl's ass on the street). And I think people would be right to be angrier at that given the power disparities of those situations. That is not to say at all that each person who has their ass grabbed does not have a right to be upset about that.

To clarify, my point was not that sexual harassment isn't bad, it is--Calvin was, at least as far as I understand the legalities, sexually assaulted. Some group of people thought it was ok to invade his personal space, and it's not.

My point was that the stakes are generally different for men than for women. That is, Cal's life was never really threatened, while if we reversed the genders of the parties involved, things would be different.

Really. I remember once not voting for him because he hadn't been on the board very long. What would that have been, six seven, years ago? That's not a factor and the stuff I see from him is pretty much the best out there, and I barely read some of the treads he posts regularly to.
