The leader of the Republican party has stated that the President is responsible when the government shuts down. This same person also asked for there to be a shut down. Feel free to recognize it.

I think if you listened to Graham this week, you'd understand who is acting in bad faith here. I'm sure you have, yet you are placing the blame on the Democrats not the leader of your party that you, for whatever reason, still belong to.

Four GOPers voted no. Two agree with the Democrats on DACA - Graham and Flake - while two are not inclined to vote for unbalanced (i.e. pretty much all) budgets - Paul and Lee. Five Dems voted yes. 51 senators there were for ending the debate to proceed to a vote, but Schumer insisted on 60 so away we go.

The Democrats are filibustering to shut down the government. It might be the right action morally, politically, etc. But it's reality. Feel free to recognize it.

So, do the Dems dig in their heels here or is WALL funding still negotiable?

I think at this point they should insist on CHIP, a pathway to citizenship for all DACA kids, and no funding for the wall. The longer the shutdown, the larger the blue wave will be in November.

Between the tax bill and the dirty trick of not accepting Obama's SC nominee and appointing Gorsuch is what caused this shutdown. Now the GOP want to deport the Dreamers. How low can the GOP go? I believe the Dems aren't going to roll over anymore and I for one am happy about it.

The 2016 presidential election results are a mandate for democrats to hold their ground on behalf of left-leaning policies.

Trump said the government needed a good shutdown. He ended DACA. Republican Congress let CHIP expire. They we're trying to pass another band-aid with more tricks to defund ACA. A previous chip bill included anti-trans bullshit. Trump admitted he views immigration in racial terms, scuttling any possible deal on that portion due to his motives. Now, the GOP says to decide between CHIP or Dreamers. Their crocodile tears are just that.

Clean CHIP

Clean Dream Act

Enough is enough. Why are policies that are amazingly popular somehow not able to be brought to the floor to be passed? I'm sorry, 'past'

About 3/4ths of the country supports DACA.

@kasie
SCHUMER-TRUMP TICK TOCK, FOR SERIOUS: Back and forth over the course of the day ends with John Kelly calling Schumer to complain the framework Schumer & Trump agreed to at lunch was too liberal for GOP

GOP says, need POTUS to make deal. Then seems to say: POTUS deal no good. Hm.

Actually I heard a near same, but with a twist. It was reported on local DC TV that a furious Kelly pulled Trump asde and said that the deal was not conservative enough. No deal.

2 things to interpret from that:

1) Trump is a weak azz deal maker who need shadow president Kelly's approval (on what planet?).

2) Kelly is becoming a huge problem for the nation. His previous heroism has morphed into a power position that is outside of his role.

You, as well as most other posters here, are not often in the habit of outsourcing your opinions to Trump and deferring to Trump's assessment of things as being reality.

The GOP really can't complain about anything the dems do right now because their own behaviour has been so destructive and unprecedented. It's laughable for them to even try.

One element to the shut down is the dems really have nothing to lose. Despite a robust economy, trump and the republicans have not been able to capitalize on it, but ibthink it has been the, main reason trump has held,on to his base. If the shut down damages the economy, it will I think result in serious damage to Republican approval.

If say in 6 months the economy looks less robust than it does now, no one will trace that to the shut down, they will trace it to the party in power.

As far as blame right now, the Democrat's message has to be we can't negotiate with trump, because we thought we had a deal a trump sabotaged it. Twice.

The strategy of the dems should be conciliatory towards trump so he and his base turn on republicans.

“I brokered an AMAZING deal with dems that WEAK MITCHY SABATOGED. NO MORE ESTABLISHMENT. MAGA”
