Yup. Got back from Iraq a bit before joining the board, but that's a fact and not a credential. In my opinion, the flag and the anthem are not a display to honor the soldiers, the soldiers are a display to honor them. And frankly, I don't think a sporting event has been the proper place for a display of that sort since Rome fell.

Thanks for sharing. That's what I asked earlier and you'd think I asked about penis sizes based on the reaction I got.

Pretty average. Nothing spectacular.

CNN Blue Ribbon Panel (i.e., talking to Trump voters) has a humorous slant. A woman from Nicaragua is made at the dreamers because they want everything handed to them like free college... would have been nice if she got that... (me too, but WTF is she talking about).

They do side with the NFL players, all 5 of them (one said she does not like it, but, hey, first amendment). 3 or 5 regret their vote, one starting with January 21st with crowd size (and likened it to his hands size freakout).

I'm all about Obama succeeding, because as a Republican, I believe in America.

I'd be bummed if Obama got offed in the next few weeks. Biden would win in a landslide. Outpouring of sympathy and all that.

Barack Obama already fixed America.

Obama got elected. America is all better. Yes we can!

Lol Obama said his opponents talk about him like he's a dog today

Does he have some sand in his vagina? Jesus Christ.

lmfao at this next one
I don't see how this ends well. Yeah me either, though of course I think it's better for to roll the dice this way than go two more years with the Obama/Reid/Pelosi crew I think there's a possibility that Obama and a House GOP can work together and do something cool like tax simplification or long

One of the best parts about electing Obama is Hollywood doesn't have to hate America quite so much and make mediocre music/movies to further that point.

McConnell has shown that he's highly motivated to get things done through bipartisan compromise when the stakes are high. Witness the Fall of 2008 when he and 2/3 of his caucus voted for the TARP legislation.

He's going to try and get things passed this Congress, although unlike Dole in 1994 he's not majority leader so that limits what he can accomplish. Fucking hell, he didn't say he's going to sit on his ass the next two years and instruct his caucus to filibuster everything.

I, for one, am simply glad jh is officially on Team Resistance and will let bygones be bygones. I welcome him with open arms.

Your copy of A People's History is in the mail, and will of course be delivered by a unionized USPS worker. Please accept this baked brownie as a warm treat. You might not want to drive after you eat it.

racist demagogue seeks sanctions against minority to stoke fears at home

this time, it's Erdogan, who wants sanctions against the Kurdistan Regional Government in Northern Iraq because they voted on independence:
Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government of "treachery" for pressing ahead with the vote despite international opposition.
All military and economic options were now "on the table", Mr Erdogan said.
He had previously threatened to cut a vital Kurdish oil export pipeline and stop lorries crossing Turkey's border.
Turkey fears that the emergence of an independent Kurdish state on its border will stoke separatist feeling in its own Kurdish minority.

The results of the referendum are yet to be declared, but a "yes" vote is expected.

In talking with my veteran colleagues they are all in violent agreement with me that symbology and ceremony of the anthem, and the conflation of the flag are wholly inappropriate, whereas the recognition of the Constitution and its protections for citizens are much more important. Basically they called the noise around the protests, which they supported across the board as a right to be respected, fake patriotism.

Based on my facebook feed, the Cowboys action was confusing to people (in that people are reading into exactly what they want) though the true dumbasses who posted that fake Jerry Jones quote seem silent so far.

sorry to pile on but I've been reading old politics threads and there's one where jh gets all smug and indignant because he thinks Bernie wants to ban deodorant variety.

Didn't Bernie complain that there were too many deodorant choices and not enough of something else that was a complete non sequitur?

nope, not a non sequitur at all. very, very, very easy point to understand. it's about the failings of having consumption being the primary & nearly solitary goal of your economic system. kind of embarrassed I have to explain that, but hey, maybe pretending Bernie wants to ban deodorants polls well with your constituents, Luntz.
