Since the kid is apparently sitting in hurricane alley, I guess I need to figure out a car for him so he can self evacuate. The drama with his 80 year old grandmother feeling that she needed to go get him out of harms way was a bit much. Better safe then sorry I suppose, but self sufficient seems prudent.

Good news is that now she's on antibiotics to get rid of the residual strep infection, which should help with the anxiety and depression (though probably not resolve it entirely). Bad news is that a future strep infection could make it come back, so antibiotics forever?

Just an update on this in case anyone was curious. We finally beat the strep infection but it took like three months, and her extreme anxiety subsided to where she was nearly as she was before this all started. This fall she again started regularly asking my wife or me if she feels warm but it seems less serious and we're not seeing any of the other behaviors.

Are you trying any kind of mental health therapy to help her cope? It seems having a bit of anxiety about the symptoms returning is completely rational but may not helpful?

She saw a therapist every two weeks through last school year, helping her to learn healthy coping mechanisms, which seemed to help a lot. The therapist and our daughter agreed at that point that the sessions were no longer necessary. Hopefully they continue to not be necessary as they weren't cheap.
