Spot on summary. I thought it was an excellent movie.

+1

The music performances were real and real good

And I didn’t even notice that was Andrew Dice Clay in there damn

i don't know but this sounds like some good shit...

Directed by James Wan (“Furious 7”), “Aquaman” ventures from a neon, “Tron”-inspired Atlantis to ancient ruins straight out of “Indiana Jones,” and then into a nightmare realm of evil swarming fish monsters. It features gigantic battles between innocent crab people and bad guys riding armored sharks. At one point, a DayGlo rave octopus plays the drums while Aquaman fights for the throne of Atlantis in an underwater gladiator arena called “The Ring of Fire.”

To call this movie “big” is an understatement. “Aquaman” has damn near everything: Amber Heard wears a dress made out of domesticated jellyfish, Julie Andrews voices a Lovecraftian aquatic leviathan, Nicole Kidman eats a live goldfish (presumably fake), Willem Dafoe spins a trident so fast it creates an impenetrable saltwater shield

Saw it last night. Non-stop ride, but also mad corny. Razzle dazzle for days

Well put

District 9 was brilliant. First time seeing this, loved everything about it.

caught the Mule the other day. I like some Eastwood-directed movies quite a bit so I was pretty optimistic. I thought the cops-and-robbers stuff and the family drama both worked pretty well but there are some weird choices in there that drag the whole thing down. it's impossible to watch a party scene where the camera lingers on asses longer than the opening of Spring Breakers without imagining the 88-year old behind the camera. add in two separate threesome scenes for good measure. similarly, his homespun take on race relations mostly works outside of one scene that is not so much offensive as bewildering in terms of character. I still thought it was pretty solid but way too meta experience. your mileage may vary

HBO's "Panic" on the 2008 financial crisis was well done and had some interesting insights from Obama but didn't advance the story much overall imo

Aquaman was surprisingly entertaining. If you can ignore the mashup‘s between Star Wars, Ragnarok/Thor, a mix of whole world, and a brew film, you can enjoy it. Deep thinking is best left for some other movie. Maybe spider verse.

Finally saw Sorry to Bother You which was interesting and complex and entertaining for about two thirds and then falls apart into a weird kind of comic book style but was still definitely worth a rental.

Anybody catch Vice yet? Saw it last night and enjoyed it. I thought it was brilliantly edited. Christian Bale was freakin' amazing. I haven't seen The Big Short yet but I will make a point of it now.

Watched Bird Box... meh needed Keanu or Michael Oher with Bullock... ,Bad Times at the Old Royale... kinda good fun like skim milk Tarantino, and the Nun... couldn't tell if I should be scared or laugh but I wasn't bored

Didn't like Vice. Loved The Big Short. I thought the pacing was just so slow for Vice, though Christian Bale was good. It didn't help that I saw the 10:30 showing and nodded off a couple times.

Lady Bird was really good. Kept thinking the dad was Marv from Home Alone.
Miami Vice was not good. I love Mann and it’s shot really cool but the movie is a dud.
Hitchcock’s Rope was neat. They didn’t have the technology to film it in one continuous shot so it’s only 11 scenes.

The Mule was good despite the casual racism and Clint having threesomes with 25 year olds

ehh...those are probably critic reviews. I'll wait to hear what audiences say. The reality is that it doesn't matter because it can't possibly be bad enough for me not to want to see it.

Watched 3 movies this weekend:

Venom: Didn't know anything about the story going into the movie. Thought it was terrible for the first half since I found both lead characters to be completely unlikable, even though I think I was supposed to like them. Poor acting. The second half was a bit better once the story started to develop a bit and I got used to the stupid dialogue between the main character and the creature, but I still found it distracting and not funny and just really bad most of the time. 5/10 and that only because the action was decent.

Sound of the Sea: Really nice animated film. Perfect for my 7 year old daughter. Really liked the story and the style of the animation. It was maybe a little slow in spots. 8.5/10

Simple Favor: Had low expectations going into this, but was surprised by the story. I don't think it was quite as funny as intended (didn't think the neighborhood parent's stuff was that funny), but it was well done, cool soundtrack, good performances, and I enjoyed it overall. 7/10
