To be sure, it has serious flaws--the script is weak, especially the first half, and there are no real revelations about Freddie Mercury or the band on offer. Episodes occur, but nothing comes from them. (Why waste time on explaining how they had to lip sync their appearance on Top of the Pops?) Things get a better as Freddie descends into basic rock and roll debauchery, culminating in his leaving the band. The acting is solid, and the music scenes work well. It's pretty clear the surviving members of the band wanted to protect their legacy, and Freddie's legacy as well.
I do think recreating the 20 minute Live Aid performance works.

Are you implying that Bradley Cooper is not doing his own singing? Why do you think that? I think it is pretty much known that he did do his own singing in that movie.
