Caught two horror movies the last two days: A Quiet Place and The Nun. Not really my thing, but my viewing companion is into them so I'm slowly building up a catalogue. Both turned out to be better than I had hoped using two different strategies. A Quiet Place was really nicely made and well-acted, and builds up the tension by not revealing much about the threat that's out there. Which is good, because by the time they reach the climax you're like, why the hell didn't they just do something like that before. Like MONTHS before. Makes it all seem pretty stupid, but only in retrospect, so you can enjoy it while it's happening.

The Nun works a little by being so absolutely and completely awful for the first half hour or so that when it actually generates some cool imagery and decent scares about halfway into it I was probably more grateful than it deserved. Has a few cheesy but cute nods to the other conjuring films, too. It's not very good, but at least not as bad as it could have been.

watched Babadook the other day. Wasn't as scary as I heard it would be. I thought the main actress did a good job though. And the kid was well-cast. Not sure what to think of the ending.

I want a pet Babadook of my own.

The Meg... it's not Sharknado... it's not Jaws... it's somewhere in the middle

Saw "A Star is Born" with the Mrs. last night. Cooper is really good and surprisingly fine as a singer. Lady Gaga really shows off her talent. Closing song of the movie will win the Oscar and her performance of it there will bring down the house.

Saw Venom yesterday... i really enjoyed it though the reviews have been all over... i kinda smiled and laughed through it in like a Deadpool manner though the humor isn't one liners and 4th wall stuff, the parts with Eddie/Venom were fun... it didn't have the tragic backstory the Deadpool character had but it was clear enough... it was enjoyable

Spot on summary. I thought it was an excellent movie.

I agree and thought it was a cross between deadpool and 90's MTV cartoon the head. Roy was awesome, arguably my favorite cartoon character next to bugs bunny.

Watched Deadpool 2 this past weekend with the wife. I had high hopes for it because of word of mouth. Sometimes that's bad because of the high expectations, but I was not let down. Really fun. I may watch it again.

They are releasing a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 into theaters around Christmas that will be recut in the vein of the Princess Bride with Deadpool reading the story to Fred Savage.

I really liked "Sorry to Bother You". I had no idea it was directed by Boots Riley until the end credits

Saw the original Halloween for the first time. Pretty lame.
