Gorsuch a Fascist, Mr. Trump - Politics Threat

Senator Murph just circulated the text of the 1986 CS King letter opposing Sessions' district court nomination, and never read into the record because, well, Strom Thurmond, that McConnell found so objectionable he saw fit to stifle a Senate colleague's reading of it tonight on the Senate floor.

Here's the text of Coretta Scott King's letter that Mitch McConnell didn't want anyone to hear.

I write to express my sincere opposition to the confirmation of Jefferson B. Sessions as a federal district court judge for the Southern District of Alabama. My professional and personal roots in Alabama are deep and lasting. Anyone who has used the power of his office as United States Attorney to intimidate and chill the free exercise of the ballot by citizens should not be elevated to our courts. Mr. Sessions has used the awesome powers of his office in a shabby attempt to intimidate and frighten elderly black voters. For this reprehensible conduct, he should not be rewarded with a federal judgeship.

I regret that a long-standing commitment prevents me from appearing in person to testify against this nominee. However, I have attached a copy of my statement opposing Mr. Sessions' confirmation and I request that my statement as well as this be made a part of the hearing record.

I do sincerely urge you to oppose the confirmation of Mr. Sessions.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Text of Senate Rule 19:
Under the Senate's “Rule 19,” senators are not allowed to “directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator."

Uh, Senator McConnell, the conduct in question has to do with his conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming an AG

because obviously, Senator McConnell, any miserable asshole can become a Senator

He certainly is reprehensible. Thankfully many of the worst members of Congress are very long in the tooth.

I read something last week post Gorsuch about how conservatives talking openly about strategy for the vacancy that would happen if RBG died was out of bounds because it was akin to hoping for her to pass away. At the time thought it was kinda ridiculous, the comment I responded to reminded me of it.

Sen. McConnell invoking Senate rules to stop Warren from criticizing Sessions, while unwise politically since there happen to be ways of senators getting their message out these days besides CSPAN, seems like not something worth wishing death over. But I am not standing up against the GOP authoritarian regime. Dunno how many people acting within the normal bounds of political process you're supposed to root for to die and still be on the side of the angels, but will let you all figure that out.

That is hardly the worst thing McConnell has done as Senate Majority Leader.

Not saying these are worthy of wishing death on Turtleneck but imagine if, in an alternative universe, Senate Majority Leader Reid:

1. Claimed his #1 goal was denying President McCain a second term.

2. Failed to hold a hearing for President McCain's pick for SCOTUS, thus politizing the Supreme Court in an unprecedented fashion.

Me thinks you would be, oh I don't know, a bit peeved.

I don't think I want anyone to die. It would be much more healthy for our democracy if they were just exposed for the horrible people they are. Then they could be replaced with decent human beings. I would say the same thing about a few of the dems.

I do kinda want Putin to die though.

Maybe it is that I am posting this at 5:40am and my brain is not quite awake yet (as if there is a distinction) but this seems like a slippery slope-type of thing. To me, Warren was impugning a nominee for Attorney General. It just so happens that the nominee is a senator. Besides, have the Ds not being saying the same kind of things that are in the letter for the past three weeks? They have been harping on his civil rights record constantly and, frankly, in much harsher terms than what was in Mrs. King's letter. This seemed like a really unnecessary fight to pick.

What a dumb move. No one would have read the letter or had known Warren read it. Instead Mitch made it a thing. Savvy stuff.
