has there ever been a more dramatic loss for a Presidential candidate in his home district than Trump & Manhattan?

Manhattan
Hillary 515,481
Trump 58,935

These are affluent people, many of whom stand to gain financially from a Trump presidency, who know him best, and they despise him. That should be a clue for Trumpies.

there is an enormous voting block that voted for Trump out of spite. The Donald was filled with posts the day after about how they'd been picked on and marginalized on the internet and Trump offered some sort of redemption. We saw it on here from the guy that lies about his standing in life, vague denunciations of "you just don't get it" and "this kind of stuff will lead to his re-election in 2020."

can only speak personally but I know a good amount of WOC that marched all around the country. good thing about that movement is it's inclusive so I'm sure there's room for all types of people. just sounds like you're listening to some salty dipshits trying to blow out a candle to make their flame seem bigger.

no i don't think that's a big "thing," just a few loud voices on twitter yelling as always. i do think, though, that there is a fair argument to be made that "feminism" is largely about white women. kinda like hillary's brand of feminism where she talked a lot about women's issues but then had no problem telling those BLM protester women to be quite and have them ushered out

was thinking about that the other day. great example of how tone deaf she was. she really thought that because she has so many centrist & right views/policies/resume that centrists and GOPers would vote for her. she had a populist movement she could have aligned herself with, one that would have delivered votes in key states, but yeah, she just talked down to those folks in that very viral video and here we are.

Black women went for her 94%. They are the base of the democratic party. I have no clue what you people are talking about. White women helped elect Trump.

what about the folks that didn't vote? we probably need some time before we can properly assess what happened, but a popular theme now is we're in an age of populism, and the GOP embraced their populism, while the Dems shunned it.

Have we seen any good turnout numbers yet though? Everything I've seen so far seems like preliminary data but suggested that AA turnout was back at 2004 levels.

A half a dozen precincts in Philly alone would have won PA for her(black vote).

From info I saw a bit ago AA turnout amongst men was down more than women, and women also went about 5-7% more for Clinton.

I will say that perhaps the messaging that got through wasn't populist, but the policy was and she madd plenty of speeches about the minimum wage, college, training, healthcare, etc. I saw them. I went to one that Bill gave.

It was partly about identity politics, though. Some 538 analysis showed the swing states have a higher proportion of non-college educated white men) compared to the nation at large. I think the bigger story is how this group of people went Trump by a larger margin than they went R in previous years.

Brian Schaffner ‏@b_schaffner
According to Catalist data on newly released Pennsylvania voter file: ~9% of 2016 electorate was black, compared to ~11% in 2012.

https://twitter.com/b_schaffner/status/ ... 6827855873

Voter files sometimes have to model race in non VRA states where race isn't on voter registration, and as the guy notes in subsequent tweets the new race variable is different & part of smaller share is due to white turnout being up, but seems to be pretty significant dropoff regardless.

CDC cancelled climate change conference with no reason. Could be anything I guess, but I'm assuming Trump.

Leaked information regarding his plans for executive orders regarding the EPA gut it pretty good.

If shit like this doesn't mobilize our base to vote in '18 and '20 then I don't know what will. Hopefully I won't be hearing that ridiculous "Dems and Republicans are basically the same thing, vote Green maaaan" BS as much the next go around.
