Figured I'd watch this George Lopez HBO special. He's not very funny.

Did a 5-minute spot on Tuesday at the bar by my place. Went well. Actually, my best 5 minute set yet. All bits worked. Hadn't been on stage in over a year. So, ready to go now. Might come up to do Tuesday night Helium once I get the job situation sorted out.

let us know

I went to open mic night at Noche on Tuesday. a lot of people sucked, but some were pretty damn funny. a lot of the crappy ones just needed to slow down and have more confidence in their stuff. so often they're in self-deprecation mode before the joke is out of their mouths

One of the best lines about stand-up is in Funny People when Sandler says to Seth Rogen: "Is your act designed to keep you from getting laid?"

Not that I haven't bombed just about every other time, but most open comics (a) don't have an authentic viewpoint and (b) only talk flat, no voice modulation, no physicality.

Any idea what other open mics are good? I'm curious what comedy in Philly is like vs DC. It's obvious what it is here. I can't imagine there are as many people doing Romney jokes as there are here.

you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Snap I was there too. Pregamed with Hop Devils at that Long Bar or whatever. Very very funny set from Birgiglia that seemed to end abruptly, but that could have been the Hop Devils

Wish I pregamed. Birbigs was funny. All new stuff which was great. It did end abruptly though and it seemed fast even though it was over an hour. Wanted one of those goodies but not for 40$

That's cool to hear it was new material; I'm late to the Birbiglia party but enjoyed his book and his NPR stuff. The wrestling bits were hilarious.

we walked in(4 of us) and one of the managers asked us if we came in a group. we said yes and she was disappointed. she asked us if we would be willing to split up for free tickets front row. two of my friends say they would take them. they were front row dead center. incredible. i should of said i would take the tickets. i still had good seats. last row of the 'front' section. i was sitting right behind the person who snapped a picture of him 'wrestling.'

the guy that was video taping was dead center next to my friends. everytime he turned his back he would take out his phone and start taking pictures/video.

pretty good set though. i think he's releasing a dvd of the stuff he did 2 years ago. think it was my girlfriends boyfriend/sleepwalk with me mash.

i sat on a plane next to birbigs' camera guy. this guy is following him around across the country filming documentary footage to go along with the standup material (i think like comedians of comedy). looking forward to it

I haven't seen or heard it, and I like Aukerman from Mr. Show, but Comedy Bang Bang is a really dreadful, awful name, right? tell me it's not just me

Intentionally so I believe. It's basically a mock talk show with Aukerman and Reggie Watts as the DJ/Band. Haven't been able to make it through an episode. Same cringe inducing and awkward style as between two ferns but it just doesn't work for a half hour.

Now that's my opinion, some people like it. Hell, some people eat grapefruit.

kinda figured it was intentional, but even then

Steve Coogan/Alan Partridge is still the king of the fake talk show
