Yeah, although I have little interest in a film that has Emily Blunt (as much as I like her) playing a female alcoholic divorcee who has "let herself go."

Planning to chain this one (began it yesterday, I'm about 1/2 way through it, finding it hard to put it down) with his latest, Homo Deus

Right now, I'm about 75% of the way through the third book of Justin Cronin's "The Passage" trilogy. So far the third book is better than the second, which wasn't as good as the first (mostly because the first third of it was kinda out of nowhere). They're long books, but I'd recommend them to anyone who likes books in a similar vein of The Stand.

Just got my copy. Looking forward to reading it. Really enjoyed the first two though as you note the first was better than the sequel.

Finished it. Very satisfying. I do think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had re-read the first two as there was much about those books I hadn't really remembered when I started the third.

Agreed. Some day I'll go back and do a re-read of all three. There were a ton of obvious callbacks to book one (especially in the epilogue), many of which didn't resonate with me because I last read it in 2010 or 2011.

Reading that Harry Potter play. Sort of don't like it much--is it supposed to be for kids? I mean, I kind of get Hermione as Minister of Magic, I guess. But I'd think Harry, after all he'd been through would be content to live out his days rather quietly and as much out of the spotlight as possible instead of as the head of magical law enforcement or whatever he is. I know it's a play, and you're supposed to see it rather than read it, but so far anyway it just doesn't seem to work. I didn't go in with high expectations mind you, I wasn't really looking for the "8th HP book" but I'm sure there's a lot of better fan fiction out there.

I read the fuck out of Castle in the Attic, too. Shel Silverstein books were a big favorite. Then it was pretty much Boxcar Children into Stephen King books.

Echo the Roald Dahl, though some of his books may be a bit much even for a bright 2nd grader. Loved The Phantom Tollbooth as a kid too. I think the wimpy kid books are intended for an older child than 2nd grade. Are we talking about a boy or a girl? My understanding is girls are more willing to read books where a boy is the central character than vice versa.

I now know it's reactionary religious stuff, but I did love the CS Lewis Narnia books as a kid.

Of course Roald Dahl, can't believe I forgot him. Same with Goosebumps. I also read a lot of pulp fantasy and sci-fi adventure novels like the Dragonlance or Star Wars books. I wish I had started reading the Discworld books when I was younger, too.
