I finished H is For Hawk. It's nice, I learned a lot about falconry and the history of the British country side.

Now reading Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks. It's nice, I've learned a lot about Charles Bonnett Syndrome.
I mean Inherent Vice was pretty well received. I was just not mentally prepared for Gravity's Rainbow but guess I could have done The Crying of Lot 49.

Crying of Lot 49 is the only one I've finished (being short) and I think it's pretty great. both of V. and Gravity's Rainbow I read about 2/3rds of and stopped even though I was really enjoying them and don't regret the experience. not sure it matters if you finish his books

I have watched the movie so many times that I decided to read Charlie Wilson's War. Only through 100 pages since Friday afternoon but it is fascinating. And, FWIW, the resemblance of Gust Avrakotos and PSH as Gust Avrakotos is unnerving.

the book is great, and i thought the movie was entertaining but they couldn't get into the detail of what was going on back then. Such a crazy story

Got The Martian yesterday already at 65% on my kindle on it. Loving it so far, can't put it down, obviously. I've seen the movie already but the love the way the book is filling in some of the gaps and expanding the whole story. Love it.

Yeah The Martian has been my favorite one-shot read of the past few years. Just a fun read all around.

Right now, I'm about 75% of the way through the third book of Justin Cronin's "The Passage" trilogy. So far the third book is better than the second, which wasn't as good as the first (mostly because the first third of it was kinda out of nowhere). They're long books, but I'd recommend them to anyone who likes books in a similar vein of The Stand.

Sho nuff killah flick. Now I have to get the book. Thanks.

Yeah, but it's entertaining fluff. Think I read it in like 2 days on a plane/vacation.

The Sellout is weird and heavy handed about 60 pages in but I like it so far.

Exactly. I was looking for something light to read by the pool while I drink bud light platinums. Wasn't really interested in to much depth on any front

Why do so many people consider it a bad thing to have fun while reading?

Just got my copy. Looking forward to reading it. Really enjoyed the first two though as you note the first was better than the sequel.

I dunno man, sometimes it's nice to read something that's well written with a straight forward narrative.

Yeah, and I'd fundamentally disagree with anyone who thinks that The Martian wasn't well written. It wasn't complex, and was clearly written with the intent of making an action film, but it was fun.

Agree completely, it was Castaway but on Mars. You knew what was going to happen in the end, but the setting made it interesting and different enough. Plus the dialogue was mostly amusing.

alls I'm saying is light easy reading, especially writing that's well structured and creative doesn't equal fluff. fluff is crappy page fillers with like size 14 font. like basically any book written by a Fox news type. Thassa fluffy book.
