Best yet in the "fast casual" pizza is &Pizza, a DC chain with a new spot at 1430 Walnut (not actually on Walnut - the storefront is on 15th Street).

With tax a personal pie comes out to $10.50.

when you mean fast casual are you referring to the "chipotle style" pizza places? i have been to Mod and pretty sure it was Fired too and came away both times as this is the domino's for millennials. granted that's an exaggeration, but found both to be gimmicky and something that would work pretty well at the food court in the mall.

I do mean the Chipotle type places where you see the ingrendients and choose your custom pie which is then flash cooked.

&Pizza is like MOD, Blaze, SNAP, and others.

It's not like eating at Vetri or Pizza Brain but it's miles better than Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's. The big chains are never worth the calories; these things are.

So if you go down to see a game at Nats stadium, that Capitol Riverfront is hopping.

There is a new pie joint "All Purpose Pizzeria" and the 11" pies are pricy but excellent. Nice vibe in there, too. Probably mobbed on game days. For father's day I got a free Czech style pilsener from Port City Brewing. Owner has NY/NJ roots.

The pilsener was superb. Crisp and perfect with pizza. I'm not familiar with Golden Pheasant.

How was it?

Pequod's is probably my Most Disappointing Pizza experience. I went in expecting great, waited 2 hours, what we got was not as good as Pizza Hut.

Pepe #1a, Sally's #1b. Modern #2.

If totally jammed you can walk into Zuppardi's in West Haven as a solid #3. Pay money for fresh shucked if you go for clam pie.

Oops I missed this. I thought it was pretty damn good but not like a life changing pizza or anything. We got sausage, peppers, and black olives. It was definitely a bit of a soupy mess but the crust turned out great.

For me the food highlight in Chicago so far has been the italian beef sandwiches. Would have to give the slight edge to Portillo's but I went to Johnnie's last night and it was also fantastic. BIG fan of the spicy giardiniera.

You can't go wrong at Crust or EVO but EVO was genuinely amazing.

Plan ahead a month and get a reservation at R Kitchen. 2 chefs, 16 patrons, 5 courses. A steal at $35 prix fixe. Wine for $8 a glass or $30/bottle. Easily one of the best and most memorable dining experiences of my life.
