Note--we have a nicely sized back yard, there are 4-5 little dogs next store that never stop barking anyway so maybe another dog can intimidate them into silence? And, we have two cats, one of whom is a bit on the elderly side and really doesn't like being bothered at all by anyone or anything and is the strongest argument I have right now for why we shouldn't get a dog.
Of course, we'd go rescue.

I'm not really a dog person, but there are some dogs I think are really cool. Something trainable, sociable (but not overly so) and one that will only bark if it has a good reason to do so.
Basically, I want a canine version of myself. That's why I was thinking something like a shepherd/lab mix.
