Some of us liked him from the get-go.

Gillies looks like a pretty big guy. He's listed at 6-1 200 at baseball cube. You'd think he'd put on even more weight as he gets older. He has great size for a guy that fast, which makes me surprised I haven't seen him compared to Carl Crawford.

Well, he might make a better lead-off guy than Doug Glanville, Ricky Otero and Jimmy Rollins and still not be all that great.

I think it will be very interesting to see what he does out of the High Desert environment. He had 14 triples last year. Also 18 HBP which seems like a lot. Only grounded into 6 DPs.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

while high desert is probably the best hitting environment in the minors, i'm not sure it inflated any of the tools that most people love gillies for: elite speed, awesome defense and strong obp skills. i think he can fill out a bit and add some more pop too. he'll play the whole AA season at age 21 (assuming the phils place him in reading).

HBP's are a skill. I'd guess he'll continue to get those. And the high desert park isnt huge by any means - 340 down the lines, 401 to Center, so the triples might hold up as well.

watching that reminded me of the "It's okay, I think he has a no-trade clause" (re: the Phanatic) and "I just wanted a shirt that said 'three-peat!' " lines from phdave's. legendary.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America
