It's Done? Roy Halladay traded to Phils, Lee (?) to Mariners

Postby PTOITWCFTPP » Mon Dec 14, 2009 19:11:36

Fugees are saying the deal is 3/70

No idea where they got that though

Ok, I'll call it.

Lee brings back Morrow, Aumont and Adam Moore
Phillies send Taylor, Aumont, D'Arnaud and maybe one lesser prospect like Pettibone to Toronto
We get Halladay, Morrow and cash.

Halladay
Hamels
Blanton
Happ
Moyer

Morrow is used strictly as a starter in AAA, and he eventually replaces Moyer in the rotation. He's our #3 starter in 2011.

Hamels isn't even officially on this team in 2012 and they're going to need some serious tweeking to continue to contend beyond 2011.

2010 Halladay/Hamels/Lee
2011 Halladay/Hamels
2012 Halladay/

You're the one who wanted them to mortgage the entire farm to be dominant in 2010, now you're worried that they won't be able to compete in 2012?

Make up your mind, man.

No. I wanted them to clean Toronto's clock like the Mets did to Minnesota. How was that situation any different? I want to know why we're giving in now in mid December? Ruben said no dice to Ricciardi and then caved to Anthopolous. There was no reason for this to happen now.

should we concede 2010 and beyond? I vote yes.

seriously

stfu already with your whining

They're not better next year. The Blue Jays had to trade Halladay, and he was arguably just as obtainable in free agency. He had a FNTC and was blocking basically every team except LA and Philadelphia. Ruben bent them over badly in the Summer, yet they still demand and get top prospects when they trade him finally to the Phillies. Unbelievable.

Relax. We don't know what the trade is yet. Lee could be horrible next year for all we know. I'd hold off before flipping out after getting the second best pitcher in baseball.

I think we're all just speculating at this point and giving reactions to things as they come in.

I personally don't think Halladay is so much better than Lee that we should give up several of our top prospects for the right to sign him to a long-term deal, a deal that we could easily sign him to next year without giving up those prospects. What is Halladay, 1 game better than Lee? Is Lee the reason we didn't win the world series? I think we hurt or depth and gave up guys who could help the team either directly or in trade later this summer if there's a hole to fill. I could live with it if we were keeping Lee, but we're not. The Big 3 that everyone was saying would be worth giving up top prospects has now been reduced to a Big 2, and that's if you count an inconsistent Hamels.

I think the board is so obsessed with Halladay that we aren't seeing what little advantage we gained for the heavy price being payed (assuming the trade goes down as advertised). JMO.

Can't be traded for 12 months after you sign. He was drafted last summer.

Give me Liddl and Carp

I'm hesitant to express opinions on anyone I hadn't heard of 15 minutes ago, but Liddl seems like he'd be a great fit for the Phils. The walk rate is encouraging even if his league inflated the power #s.

Carp, not so much--ex-Met, unspectacular numbers.

I'm prepared to hate this, and I didn't think it was possible to hate a deal that landed Halladay.

If the deal approximates jflnyc's latest scratch pad, I'm really ok with this. We keep a very good pitcher and cole hamels, we keep our two top prospects, and we may get back two more very good ones. It's doesn't give us the absolutely best shot for 2010, but it's still a very good one, and we've lost none of our farm's depth, and may fill prospect holes to boot (new closer for example). makes our chances of lasting beyond 2010 much better. I would call such a deal shrewd.

Mind you, the deal where everyone goes to toronto and we get halladay, and then he breaks down and dies and cole dies and everyone else leaves (or dies) and monkeyboy is our number one pitcher ... that one I wouldn't like so much.
