PHILADELPHIA (AP)—A person with knowledge of the situation says Toronto pitcher Roy Halladay(notes) is in Philadelphia to take a physical for the Phillies, a necessary step before the teams finalize a trade.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the teams had not made any announcement.

Philadelphia could give up pitchers J.A. Happ(notes), Joe Blanton(notes) and outfielder Dominic Brown as part of a deal, the person said.

I LIKE THIS RUMOR MUCH BETTER

Blanton, Happ to Seattle, Seattle prospects to Toronto, Brown to Toronto, Doc to Philly?

Either that or Blanton and Brown to Seattle and Happ + Mariners' prospects to Blue Jays (maybe one of them to Phillies)?

I think you need to wait and find out who we actually traded. No team has confirmed anything. It's just a bunch of douchebags on TV guessing.

If Lee is traded and we give up nothing, it's a lateral move for next year and a good one for 2011. If Lee is traded and we still give up anything, with his salary and production last season, it's a terrible deal. Toronto has no leverage at all here.

No, it would not be a lateral move because Halladay is better than Lee.

What is the difference in 35 starts between them? A win, maybe a half win?

That doesn't thrill me.

Salisbury on DNL just said that the Phils, within the last 12 hours, moved off their reluctance to trade either Drabek or Brown.

If that's true, this is officially a bad move. You can't trade Donald + Marson + Carrasco + Knapp for Lee in July, only to trade Lee and Brown and maybe others for Halladay in December. If you really wanted Halladay in the first place, go get him in July.

Even if it means you get to keep Lee, Blanton, Victorino and Happ?

As hoya pointed out, we wouldn't also be keeping Lee. And the way you keep the Phillies rolling is precisely by getting rid of high-payroll guys who fill needs like Victorino and Blanton and replacing them with cheaper guys who give you 85% or more of the production you got from those guys. In this case, we're talking about Taylor for Victorino (just as Brown in 2011 for Werth) and Happ moving to fourth starter in place of Blanton (so yes, I would like to keep Happ). Then bring Pedro back, bada-boom, bada-bing.

It comes down to this: if the Phillies were unwilling to give up Brown or Drabek for Halladay in July, why should they be willing to do it NOW, when they have Lee for 2010 and Toronto is desperate? AND ESPECIALLY why would they do it when they are ALSO going to give up Lee? What was the point of giving up four guys for Lee just to give up the players for Halladay you swore you wouldn't give up five months later? I mean, to me, that's bloody close to incompetent (if it's true).

I would be willing to part with Brown... IF AND ONLY IF it meant Hallday AND Lee for 2010. That's value. But giving up Lee AND Brown for Halladay... stupid.

Now THAT I can get behind...

Ms beat writer on ESPNews: "I believe it is Cliff Lee right now"

Prospects going back the other way--Aumont and Gilles (sp?). Not sure if to Phils or Jays. Sean Kelly, Brandon Morrow "might come up"

Has not heard anything about Happ :x

Tyson Gillies. I remember watching the Futures game where he was being interviewed. Nice story; he's partially deaf and is supposedly one of the fastest players in the minors.

Absolutely. However, i'm waiting to judge this trade because every person that's ever been in the Phillies organization is rumored to be involved in this trade.

Regardless, Roy Halladay is a Phillies.

I'll believe Seattle is sending us prospects of any value for Blanton and Happ when I see it.

I acknowledged that possibility, but right now, my focus is on next season. How are we better if Lee is traded? The idea is to get the + wins from the huge gap between Halladay and Blanton, not Lee.
