rotoworld:
According to FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi, RHP Phillippe Aumont and Phillies OF Michael Taylor are among the prospects headed to Toronto.
The pieces are starting to fall into place on this three-team blockbuster trade involving the M's, Phillies and Blue Jays. Aumont, 20, has a 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 109/42 K/BB in 106 2/3 career minor league innings. He was selected in the first round by Seattle in 2007. Taylor, 23, boasts a .312/.383/.515 batting line in 1,306 minor league plate appearances.

Apparently during that interview, it was mentioned that it could be Blanton, Happ, Taylor and somebody else. Not sure if they are running with that Yahoo Sports story or what.

I think you need to wait and find out who we actually traded. No team has confirmed anything. It's just a bunch of douchebags on TV guessing.

If Lee is traded and we give up nothing, it's a lateral move for next year and a good one for 2011. If Lee is traded and we still give up anything, with his salary and production last season, it's a terrible deal. Toronto has no leverage at all here.

No, it would not be a lateral move because Halladay is better than Lee.

What is the difference in 35 starts between them? A win, maybe a half win?

That doesn't thrill me.

It will in 2011 when Lee is gone.

you are assuming that the phillies don't get halladay in 2011 if they don't get him for 2010, or that the 2011 price goes way up if they don't get him now. given halladay's apparent preference for philly, those assumptions don't look good.

the argument against any lee+prospects=halladay trade that doesn't bring back prospects is that we could have lee in 2010 and halladay in 2011+ without giving up prospects.

i'm hoping rubes is not this dumb. the lee trade says he's not. the moyer contract says he is.

Would Blanton fetch Aumont?

Do we need cash if we're moving Blanton's $$? They should have just raised ticket prices another dollar.

Geez, this thread is crazy.

If Toronto gave us money in the deal, then we'll have to give up a bunch more than I hoped because cash is king in this economy.

My concern is that Ruben has once again locked in on a player. If so, he may have hurt us long term. I'm hoping Taylor and Happ both stay, but I'm afraid one or both will be gone. I guess the fact that we'll be getting cash from Toronto does increase the likelihood that Lee stays.

The one thing that would piss me off is if he gave up Lee and prospects for Halladay. Extension or no extension, I think that's just stupid, especially given Halladay's age and mileage.

To sum this up:

1. Halladay is a Phillies.
2. Lee is (probably) a Mariners.
3. Nobody knows shit about any other specifics.

FYI: Stark to be on ESPN950 in 5 minutes.

Missanelli is reporting this on the scratch-pad from somewhere:

Phillies get: Halladay and two M's prospects
Blue Jays get: Aumont, Taylor, and Travis D'Arnaud
Mariners get: Lee

Depending on who the Mariner prospects coming here are, I think I'd be ok with that.

Blanton unfortunately has little trade value because his salary is roughly equal to his value (middling starter, $7 million salary). He is a piece to be moved to make a trade like this work and he (or Lee) would have value to Seattle because they have some dollars to spend. Blanton may be as good as any of the non-Lackey free agent crop, so a year of him is at least fairly safe financially.

giving up D'Arnaud makes a ton of sense. One of my sources said they loved him in that draft and asked for him over the summer.

I'm trying to think this through from the perspective of the teams' motivations.

The Phillies want at the least to break even for 2010 (depending on one's take on Halladay vs. Lee), to stay under $140 million or so, and to have a no-doubt ace going forward. The Jays obviously just want to maximize the return for Halladay--to turn chicken shit into chicken salad. If they can add Canadian players in the deal, swell, but I have trouble believing that's really a big motivating factor.

Seattle presumably sees an opportunity in the AL West with the Angels much weaker and Texas likely to see its pitchers underperform compared to '09. They've got money to spend, at least for 2010.

Lee gives them a deadly top of rotation at a bargain price, takes pressure off King Felix (not that he was exactly struggling under the burden of high expectations), and shows the Zdurencik regime's commitment to contending. I don't see why Seattle would do it if Lee weren't involved.

Pretty much. I don't consider them improved if Lee is traded. And I'm of the opinion that Roy was an inevitability on this team in 2010 and beyond if they just wait it out. Lining up to trade Lee is not a good move whether it was for 2011+ or not.

That is from Jim Bowden's twitter, which was taken down. Morosi had retweeted earlier before Bowden took down the post
