The Phillies are a very new school organization I think. They seem to really understand the concept of service time and how to manage it properly. What they say or who they trade away doesn't matter, because deep down they're really smart, and we should trust them. Because they're new school. I think.

If the trade that's being reported is accurate, we're including Drabek so they pay us $6 million dollars so we can partially afford Halladay. The other part of his contract is being paid for by shipping off Cliff Lee for $0.50 on the dollar.

I'll just note that both Ken Rosenthal and Jon Heyman have similar trade concepts listed, despite working for different sites. Although admittedly, the reports are somewhat old. Still they are both talking about something like:

To Tor: Aumont, Taylor, + other prospects from Philly or Seattle
To Phil: Halladay, + prospects from Seattle
To Sea: Lee
With Saunders and Morrow being as possibilities from Seattle.

Now, you see, this is a deal that actually makes sense for the teams depending on the particulars.

Again, is there anyone who is backing up Stark's report that we are all fretting over?

I hate myself for even posting this but:

#Phils getting $6M from #Jays in Halladay deal. Drabek, Taylor, likely D'Arnaud to TOR, Aumont, Gillies and 3rd player to PHI...

Reading on it now, it mostly seems like media nonsense, but reading what these "sources" are saying is horribly depressing. Why would they give up so much for so little? It just doesn't make sense; with all the smart moves this management has made, i have trouble believing reason and logic would go out the window now.

I'm going to have a beer, watch Zoe Saldana on letterman and refresh twitter, philly.com, backshegoes.com and si.com like a madman.

Don't refresh here. Nothing's changing tonight. It'll just piss you off more like everyone else.

If the third player is Morrow or Saunders, then its less of a failure by Amaro. If the third player is JC Ramirez, its still a pretty big failure, but with some upside. If its not those guys, then hes completely lost the plot.

The name I dread the most is Greg Hallman. Who is basically a Greg Golson clone.

this is all bullshit. i am convinced. none of it makes sense. we had questions about amaro but he isnt this dumb. there are smart people around him that would prevent something like this from happening. no team just gives one of the best pitchers in the majors away. no one.

Here's the crazy thing. Rosenthal had this two days ago and we laughed at it. The worst part of that article is this:

Trading Lee, on the other hand, would help the Phillies save an additional $2 million or so in salary. Trading Lee also would bring the Phillies better prospects, enabling them to send fewer of their own top young players to the Jays.

Rosenthal had it right. Sadly, there are two sorry-ass parts in there.

1. We're saving $2 million on this.
2. "Trading Lee would bring the Phillies better prospects". Yeah, a deaf guy and an arm slot from hell. And we're giving up Drabek. Fuck.

If Gillies were Saunders and the third player were Morrow, this would make all the sense in the world.

Been thinking about this whole "white whale" thing.

I've never read Moby Dick, but didn't trying to catch the whale make the captain go bat-shit crazy?

Aumont's arm action looks fine to me, quick arm and isn't dragging it through way late or anything. His lower body is weird though, he has a tiny stride for a guy of his size, and a little inconsistent with the land foot (cuts himself off)

This guy is still very, very raw. He didn't have a HS baseball team to pitch on apparently

The one thing that makes me feel a little better is the fact that Gillick is probably involved in these talks and he, more than anyone, knows the Seattle farm system. I'm sure we're getting quality back.

The only silver lining right now is that at least the org. rates Brown higher than Taylor. Good thing it wasn't the other way around.

Why do people assume this? We've had one year of Amaro being the GM, and it's been mostly good, but not without it's mistakes. A lot of people didn't like the hiring at the time, and it could still turn out that we just judged him too soon. He could easily fuck this team up, given enough time, and it appears he has.

You don't cave to a team dangling a guy with a NTC and a strong desire to play for you. Period. You just don't. Wait them out, and be prepared to go with Lee for the season. So what if they don't end up trading him here? There's only two more years with this core of players anyway, so you're essentially only risking 2011 by being coy.

You don't look to cut costs in the rotation by subtracting your other ace. Lee, with his salary, represents possibly the greatest value in terms of available starters this winter. Get rid of fucking Blanton. Does anyone believe that with Pinero and Marquis asking for 10+ million a season, that we couldn't send Blanton somewhere, anywhere for god sakes? He's gone at the end of the year just like Lee is.
