Halladay XII: Now with Roy Halladay!

Postby LongDrive » Tue Dec 15, 2009 07:54:38

As happy as I am to get Halladay, I am still scratching my head at this deal. I'm trying to be optimistic. I was on board until Happ/Drabek were thrown into the mix. Just not sure about these prospects we are getting from Seattle. I'll have to trust the Phillies on this and hope for Hamels to pitch like he's capable of pitching because Halladay and Hamels is, and can be, a hell of a 1-2 two punch.

I guess I'm pissed because I thought they were going to keep Lee as well. Who knows with all the prospects involved. The players we are getting from Seattle may turn out to be better than what the Phils are giving up, but I doubt it!

Brown.
This is a simple game. You throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball.

When Rube gets done it'll be DeWayne Wise

Picture Roy Halladay on the mound for two/three starts of every playoff series for the next several years.

Then picture Kyle Kendrick as the 4th starter this year after Lee and Happ get traded

Why couldn't we get at least enough from Seattle to get Halladay? That would be the ideal scenario. Why are we trading our prospects and Lee?

Maybe it's the prospects Toronto wants. If Toronto wants a player or two from Seattle, it could limit our trade partners to just them.

What a coincidence - you end up sounding like a jack-azz making that statement. How you have failed to change your mind about Amaro, particularly after the deal that netted us Lee, never ceases to amaze me.

there is no evidence of any of this happening. I realise you do not rate amaro, and firmly believe he wants halladay so bad that he'll wreck our franchise, but previous behaviour suggests that he actively avoids taking such decisions. Calm the $#@! down. You are not idly speculating. You are actively indulging in misery. It is of no analytical use. Nor is it funny.

zOMG, Dajafi hates me. :( One of our most tolerant board members has run out of patience.

I'm sure I've said this before, but you have paper-thin skin. Y'all need to dip yourself in White spirits or something to toughen it up. There are a number of people indulging in the same behaviour. I can empathise with dajafi. the indulgent miserablists have $#@! my head too. I wish all of you would calm the $#@! down.

The first post was very similar to about a million other posts in this thread. I was making a post assuming that the trade had gone through as listed in the hour before I went to bed. It reiterates things both FTN and Dajafi said. Did you even read what others said or do you just see those guys through rose-colored glasses?

The second part is an obvious joke -- more of a comment about how this trade has even got under Dajafi's skin, who is one of our most even-headed posters.

You're the raving limey, not me. You telling me to settle down is kinda funny. I'll remember that next time you give one of your patented rants overreacting to something.

I'm not sure I want to make that trade, but I agree with you in terms of never thinking Amaro was worth a hill of beans.

You have that Lee deal on one hand, and pretty much everything else he has done on the other. The balance says he's overrated, imho.

The Park deal was a stroke of genius and buying out Hamels' and Howard's arbitration years to create a clearer payroll projection was smart decision. He hasn't made a bad move yet.

I said "one aspect" Certainly doesn't make me like this absolutely horrible (albeit rumored) deal. Frankly, it looks to me like the reason we won't have both Halladay and Lee is budget pressure equal to the second year on Jamie Moyer's contract which was ridiculous the moment it was given.

I also apologize for shifting this thread from a trade discussion to a Rube Referendum.
