Stark: "They (Blue Jays) had to make this deal."

WHAT DEAL? THERE'S NO DEAL? NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING YOU DONKEYS HAVE NAMED EVERY PLAYER IN THE PHILS' MINOR LEAGUE SYSTEM
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Cliff Lee to block trade. Refuses to be in the same rotation as Felix Hernandez.

I don't see what the problem is. Their catchers are named "Rob Johnson" and "Adam Moore". Can't get much waspier-sounding than that.

Lee has the right to demand a trade based on him being traded this past July. But I don't think he can specify where he's traded. So I dont see how he can block this.

We got fleeced. I guess its just time to hope some of our fringe prospects step forward in 2010, we spend a ton of money on the draft, and we somehow luck our way back to the playoffs/world series.

I don't understand. Amaro traded Lee for Aumont and Gillies?

It appears our actual GM traded Taylor, Drabek, D'Arnaud, Marson, Donald, Carrasco, and Knapp for Halladay, Gillies, and Aumont. When he could have had Halladay at the deadline for four of those players. I think my idea is better.

Blanton is walking after 2010 regardless. Now we basically have to keep an overpriced Vic, because we've traded Taylor.

Call it the revenge of JP Riccardi, I guess. Rube got hosed.

I refuse to believe that Seattle would only have to give up Gillies and Aumont to get Lee while Rube would give up all that talent for Halladay and a couple lesser prospects from the M's.

Nope, not buyin' it at all.

Trade is blocked because Cliff Lee was just redistricted to SP1 the East Philadelphia Phillies. Hewitt is their starting 3B, Jimy Williams managing and they can't afford uniforms.

I still think Aumont goes to TOR and we keep Drabek. Lee for Aumont and Gillies is not good, but it's a bit better if we get to keep Drabek.

Sea: Lee
Tor: Aumont, Taylor, D'Arnaud
Phi: Halladay, Gillies, $6MM

Not great at all. But at least we'd keep Blanton, Happ, Drabek and Brown.

Net, net:

Lee, Taylor, D'Arnaud

for

Halladay, Gillies, $6MM

This was a master stroke by Rube to get rid of any possible overconfidence in 2010 and return the fans to their more natural state of misery.

True. As far as Ken Rosenthal is concerned, for example, the deal is still Aumont, Taylor and possibly others to the Blue Jays, with Saunders and Morrow and/or Triunfel "in play" from Seattle.

I'm not getting too worked up about the absurd Stark report unless it's substantiated.

Could Aumont pitch in the pen this year, or is that just way too far to bring him

As much as I like Halladay I don't get this deal. Why give up Drabek along with Lee to get Halladay (I don't care about Gillies and Aumont.)??

Are you just trying to save a few bucks?

Really, with the Phillies talent level and rotation they should be thinking playoffs. There is no way Halladay could be any better than Lee's 2009 post-season right? Thats all that matters right now with this Phillies team.

If he wanted to win the World Series in 2010 Amaro should have tried to obtain Halladay without giving up Lee. With this trade I don't see how they are any better off in 2010 than they were in 2009. Plus they are giving up Drabek?! I don't get it.

Right. In fact, I would think that Lee has higher trade value than Halladay (despite being not quite as good) given his price tag and the fact that he can be shopped to 29 teams (as opposed to Roy and his NTC). It doesn't hurt that Lee had a stud post-season, is (slightly) younger and left-handed either.

The only reason to exclusively deal with Seattle is because Toronto is demanding Aumont. And Stark is saying Toronto isn't getting Aumont. So, I'm not buying it.

His maximum value is as a starter. But since his arm could blow up at any point with that terrible delivery, maybe it would be best to rush him and try to get something out of him before he loses 18 months to Tommy John surgery.

Stark confirms that its basically because Amaro wanted Halladay no matter what, and he knew that if it came down to a bidding war that he wouldn't get Halladay next winter. So he emptied the farm to make sure he got him.

And we should believe this why exactly? Because Stark says so? Is there anyone else independently reporting the deal that Stark is suggesting?

To be fair, Stark is "confirming" his big guess.

I really think Rube just got tunnel vision with his halladay obssession. I mean maybe he's so fucking smug that he thought fans would hear halladay and bow down to him? He's really fucked us money wise the next few years by trading some cheap options with tremendous upside. He has completely unraveled anything he has done as gm and raped our system ...awful awful...I'd rather sand Brandon fucking Lyon for 3yr/15mil
