Well, it would be exciting, but a decided risk. Maybe moving both increases the likelihood that they re-sign Pedro? Because it's hard to imagine they would go with a rotation of Halladay/Lee/Hamels/Moyer/Kendrick with no viable option for when either of the last two either flame out or get injured.

I think you're forgetting Drabek. Assuming only 1 of the 3 (Moyer/Kendrick/Drabek) works out, it leaves them with a hole at the 5, which in 2010 may not be that much of an issue. My concern is beyond 2010. Your rotation is likely to be Halladay(or Lee), Hamels , and Drabek as your first 3 (and there's still no guarantee on Drabek's success), with the 4 and 5 left to Kendrick? Low priced FA's? 2011 is going to be the problem year.

To be fair, there are about a half-dozen guys in the upper levels of the Phillies system who could grow up to be okay back of rotation starters: Flande, Savery, Worley, Carpenter, Stutes, Cisco, Bastardo just off the top of my head. None of them project as stars, but they're all at about the Kendrick level in terms of what you can reasonably expect.

Maybe all this would get Park to come back. Another "you have a chance to be the starter pitch"? (but still stick him in the bullpen)(sneaky)

There are also lots of cheapy 5th starters floating around giving you 5th starter numbers. Or hell, just use Carpenter.
