Happ plus Taylor seems like a very manageable cost for Halladay (probably too conservative really, but I can accept parting with them)....the problem if the report is true is that if they'd have to sell Blanton a la the Rangers did Millwood afterwards, we now have two replacement level holes in the end of the rotation.

Halladay plus replacement plus replacement is still likely better than Blanton plus Happ plus replacement, but by how much?

In the regular season or the playoffs? They would have enough to get to playoffs. The improvement FOR the playoffs is huge.

Hamels is worth more than Halladay, no way they deal him for Halladay even straight up. A 25 year old controllable lefthanded pitcher who already been an All Star and won the World Series MVP. Only way I see this happening is if the Phillies are DESPERATE to get rid of Hamels which I don't think is the case.

True. I'd support it if he could somehow smug TOR into taking Happ and Taylor and lesser guys, and then extend Roy. Still can't support including Drabek though

We're talking about trading Blanton for $$ reasons, and not because there's any indication that Toronto would want him, yes?

I'm going to predict that if a deal gets done, it doesnt include Happ for two reasons: (1) I dont think any team really views him as anything but a mid to bottom rotation starter, thereby providing minimal value to the deal; and (2) Amaro will be reluctant to deal him if his value is not signifcant.

I think you're looking at something like Drabek and Taylor or Brown or one of Drabek/Taylor/Brown and a variety of other pieces like Gose and D'Arnaud and May.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I don't have any problem trading Drabek. The minor leagues are littered with the bones of pitching prospects like Drabek.

8:33am: Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. had this to say to Scott Lauber about acquiring Halladay: "I don't think there's any likeliness. None."

Very clever. Use a word that doesn't exist (likeliness) so as to render the statement meaningless. GENIUS!! And maybe just a little smug.

edit: Okay maybe it exists a little but I don't like the grammar. Analysis holds.

Zero "likeliness" is different than not possible, in my mind.

My "source" tells me that Happ and Dom Brown are on the table and are awaiting a response from the Jays.

trade blanton for a decent infield prospect. moyer retires when he can't come back from his surgery.
$7million + $6.5 million is $13.5 million. still $5-7 million high if we re-sign pedro like i hope.
maybe we can dump romero on someone?
i guess that just as unlikely as amaro actually trying some version of floppy's victorino trade scenario.
probably, ownership approving a payroll boost is more likely than either, though that doesn't make it a good bet to happen.
sigh....
so close... so darn close...

Even if Moyer can't come back from his surgery, why would he voluntarily retire and give up that 8M? He pushed hard for the 2 year deal last winter, probably knowing that there was a great risk that he could be injured or ineffective by the 2nd year of the deal. Put down the pipe. We're paying old man Moyer unless he pulls a Lidle.

I cant tell you who or why I know, but it's someone who interacts with the FO and hears things. Take it with a grain of salt obviously.
