I'm genuinely jealous of their front office operation. Their owner isn't meddlesome, and in fact, seems like a pretty decent guy. They basically do everything right as an organization. The bandwagon fans still suck, but thats the case with every team. But being here in Boston has really changed the way I look at the team.

They are the best run team in baseball. And they carry themselves like that. Thus, I dislike them.

Why? If you are the best, why not act like it? I can't stand the red sox band wagon fans either, but they do their stuff right, gotta respect that IMO.

Plus Theo Epstein actually is really likeable. Most GM's just come across like smugabees but he seems almost human.

Yes yes yes yes. They are good. I get it.

And I reserve the right to hate their smug organization and their smug fanbase.

You people think Ruben Amaro is smug. Ruben Amaro is a neophyte to Theo Epstein's Grand Exalted Elder Poombah of Smug in the Ancient Secret Order of Smugness.

just talked for over an hour to my best friend from college who relocated from Wilkes-Barre to Boston in the 90s and fell under the Sox spell and he does not see Theo giving up Bucholtz and more for Halladay. It means nothing I know, but hey whatever, it eased my mind a bit.

I've actually hoped the same thing. I hate everything about Boston, and the Red Sox for that matter. I hate the despicable accent, the white-trash bearded players, and just everything about that disgusting city. Go Yankees.

In NY, it's rumor-mill, tabloid stuff. In Boston, thanks to ESPN treating Boston as the holy grail, it's journalism.

well, they won 2 WS in the last 5 years, have a great ML team and a great farm system, as well as a really smart front office. there is a reason everyone figuratively blows them

Finished blowing them yet?

Its nice Ruben and Monty want to keep Drabek and all but if they let this get to a point where Halladay goes to Boston not only will the Phillies not get him they will basically be giving Boston the next 2 World Series championships (at least). Becket, Lester, and Halladay would be darn near unbeatable in a playoff series. And you are doing this during your window of opportunity! Nice job! So I guess we'll just have to sit around and wait for this next crop of uber-prospects they love so much to make it up to the big team before we win anything again....
I would rather see you lose than win myself

I see no point in getting mad at rube for somehow screwing it up if the sox are offering to trade bucholz for halladay. we have nothing to offer which counters a young pitcher with proven top of the rotation major league ability whose major league time has been carefully preserved.

You can say all you like that rube should have made the offer, but if the sox are going to deal bucholz for halladay, they always had the potential to blow any of our offers out of the water. It wouldn't have made a difference when we put in the offer, if they've decided they wanted halladay, we could have poneyed up drabek, brown and taylor and epstein would still have been on the phone to jpr before the deal was finialsed. And given how long it was until the jays came to us with a price for halladay, the sox have had enough time to weigh up the costs and benefits of two seasons of halladay vs 5 and a bit years of bucholz.

I think it's unlikely that this offer has been made, if only because the yankees would be busier if the sox are a near lock to acquire halladay. But there's no point discounting it as a possibility. they have the salary to resign halladay, so if they're happy with trading him for bucholz, they'll do it.

I still think we're going to get him, but I can't discount the significant chance he goes to the sox.

Don't agree with this sediment at all. Beyond Bucholz there really isn't much in the Boston offer. Lars Anderson,, slow bat, watched him play last night (at Reading) and he does not impress me at all. The Phillies counter offer of Happ, Taylor, Donald and Carassco has much more ability to help Toronto in multiple positions much more quickly. There is a good chance that by this time next year Toronto could have all four of them on the Major league roster. Beyond Bucholz I don't see anything that could do that for Boston, and Oh By the Way Toronto now has to face the Best Right handed pitcher in baseball for at least the next year plus but most likely Boston doesn't make this deal without signing him at some point Its a real risk from Toronto's perspective.
