Halladay VII: Rock out with your Doc out

Postby Trent Steele » Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:04:04

So, what’s going to happen? Well, Ricciardi told Yahoo! Sports last night that his gut feeling is that Halladay won’t be going anywhere. I’m still not sold. Regardless of what he says, I believe Ricciardi is highly motivated to meet ownership’s demands to shed payroll, and he knows he can fetch a greater return for Halladay if he trades him now rather than in the offseason. Unless the Red Sox make an offer that involves Clay Buchholz, the Phillies will put together the best package, and in the end, I think the sides will agree to include 19-year-old right-hander Jason Knapp instead of Drabek. It may not happen until the last minute, but I think the Phillies will get Halladay for Happ, Knapp, Brown and triple-A shortstop Jason Donald, who returned last night after minor knee surgery in June and went 2-for-4.

Happ, Knapp, Brown, and Donald? I'd be hard-pressed to turn that down
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I'd be cool with that deal, but I think I'd prefer to give up Drabek + minor prospect than Knapp/Brown. Again, not that I'd be complaining.

Agreed on both points. Ideally, they woud trade Drabek/Happ and 2 non-Knapp/Brown/Taylor prospects, but the Phils don't seem prepared to go that way.

This year, between 4.00-4.50. Next year, between 3.50-4.00. After that, sub-3.50. By then he should "know how to pitch."

Care to bet whether he'll be under 4.25 for the 2009 regular season? If I win, I get to change your avatar to whatever I want, for 3 months. If you win, you can do the same. If Buchholz doesn't get to 40 IP, it's a push. Deal?

Knapp and Brown might be our top two "upside" prospects. But, especially with Knapp as being younger and a pitcher, they're so far away that it's almost an abstraction at this point.

Under 4.25? Hmmm. Let me think it over. I have to teach class in a few minutes. When I return, I'll have answer for you.

Still would like to find a way to keep Drabek, Brown, and Taylor, but I'd be okay with that deal. I love Knapp, but his current delivery still scares me to death. And with Trevor May showing a dominating fastball, I don't think the system will take a huge hit. A good way to fill that hole would be to sign Colvin, big, tall, athletic high school arm with good projectibility and a 92-94mph fastball right now.

Would totally do that. trade vic in the offseason for some useful fringe pieces, and platoon taylor and mayberry for a bit in the OF until taylor's good to go.

Taylor is good to go now. There is no reason to wait except that Victorino may be the hottest player in baseball right now and, although it confounds me, Vic is now 7th in the league in hitting and has a .862 OPS.

I'm fine with that deal. I view our top 2 prospects as Drabek and Taylor so I'd be OK with this.

Platoon? Aren't both Mayberry and Taylor right-handed?

phillieszoneKerfeld will scout Washburn tonight and Halladay tomorrow.

seriously, why are they bothering to scout Halladay and Washburn. These guys have been around forever, I think you know what they throw.

Surely you know that's not the only reason to send someone to scout a player, don't you?

the only thing they need to see at this point is that he doesn't get killed by a line drive. likely that they have tvs and maybe even high def.

Not the only reason for sending a scout. I can't believe you guys don't get that.

Does anyone really believe FTN and his 60+ posts per day has a girlfriend who's a Sox fan?

Victorino isn't going anywhere. I'm hoping we can move Taylor instead of Brown.

How about trade Howard in the offseason, move Ibanex to 1B, Taylor in LF, save lots of money to re-sign Roy Halladay.

I guess 1 and Woody aren't married either. Well ... It's more believable than naked parties.

The most sensible and realistic thing, to me, is to just trade Taylor. Our lineup kicks ass.
