And Howard is the face of the franchise in some sense, even with the WFC. When FOX or ESPN want to show an image of one Phillie to suggest all Phillies and great baseball, who do they show? Ryan Howard. I've long argued that Howard is one of those rare players who has some value beyond what he does on the field, and, although I know most here disagree with me, I stand by that idea.

also quite pleasant, but bit of a gamble that taylor's going to replace the difference in power between howard and 2010 banzai rule. Still though, whatever you're getting back for howard better than what you're getting for vic, so it's all good.

Man, Clement is so perplexing.

He was one of the best prospects in baseball a few years ago. Big time power, good eye, decent defender. But every time hes come to the majors, hes fallen flat.

I agree it's overblown, but you can see for yourself how lively his pitches/swing are at that moment, whether he's got a slight injury, etc.

For example, if the Mariners offered you Washburn two months ago, you might have flatly denied them based on his track record. But a good scout might have been able to watch him and get a feel that he was throwing extremely well and could help the team.

No reason not to do both.
