I don't see how Rube is embarrassing anyone. Rube hasn't said anything, it's Ricciardi who is embarrassing himself. Sometimes, you can't make a deal because you're dealing with someone who completely overestimates his leverage. See Kyle Lohse.

We don't know that the reasonable deal is there--Ricciardi may be asking for more than Drabek, Happ, and Brown.

IIRC he backed off that deadline days ago.

n addition to the Phils, Ricciardi is talking with several other teams, including the Boston Red Sox. A report on Tuesday said the Red Sox had offered pitchers Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden and outfield prospect Ryan Westmoreland for Halladay. A person with knowledge of the offer shot down the report. However, the person indicated that Boston was ready to put Buchholz in play. That could adversely affect the Phillies, because Blue Jays sources say they favor Buchholz over any of the Phillies pitchers who have been discussed.

You can all keep talking about how this is BS and make cool-guy funnies about blowing the Red Sox hahahhahha, but there are multiple people reporting they will deal Bucholz for Halladay. If its true, its over. Stop being idiots

I'm genuinely jealous of their front office operation. Their owner isn't meddlesome, and in fact, seems like a pretty decent guy. They basically do everything right as an organization. The bandwagon fans still suck, but thats the case with every team. But being here in Boston has really changed the way I look at the team.

I've been to Fenway. It has a nice baseball atmosphere, granted. I've been to Boston, on numerous occasions. Sure, everyone loves the Sox. I guess if that's your thing, it's good.

None of this changes my feeling, however. I don't care if their owner seems cool, or if their ballpark is nice, or their organization is well-run. The sense of entitlement is the irritating thing, and they've developed it fast, and in bounteous excess.

I thought he said only if things were progressing. So far he claims he hasn't been motivated.

If the rumor is true, it looks very bad, but all may not be lost. If Riccardi has any sense, he'll come back to the Phils one last time. But, to get it done then, Rube's going to have eat a lot of crow and probably offer more than Riccardi originally asked for.

Putting Buccholz in play and putting Buchholz in play for Halladay are two different things.

You may be right. That sounds familiar. But I guess the point is that he left himself some wiggle room.

Then if I'm Amaro it's a no. We don't NEED this. We need another solid pitcher. This is a luxury move, not a move of necessity.

There are other ways to better this team without letting this prick get the best of us. Screw him and his little dog too. I hope he gets hit by a train after his ass gets fired.

They are the best run team in baseball. And they carry themselves like that. Thus, I dislike them.

I agree. If the Buchholz thing is true, then we're probably not in a position to match it, and would be better off going after Lee. He'd be a huge add to the rotation, a major factor in the playoffs, and wouldn't cost us as much in either payroll or prospects.

Halladay should compare the teams, and after he looks at RF "Hmmm.... JD Drew, or Jayson Werth", call JPR and say "only the Phillies."

Why? If you are the best, why not act like it? I can't stand the red sox band wagon fans either, but they do their stuff right, gotta respect that IMO.
