Won't Riccardi look dumb when he accepts our offer on Friday for something measurably less than what the Angels, Rangers and Red Sox have "offered"?

Look at Roche's tweet closely. It's a non-denial denial. It doesn't say the Red Sox didn't make an offer, it says they "have not offered buchholz, bowden and westmoreland for halladay." So maybe there was an offer, but that wasn't that exact package.

Then when you look at the tweet I just posted from Heyman, he says buchholz, bowden and westmoreland "won't get it done." That implies there was an offer, but it just wasn't good enough. Now it seems the Sox are increasing their offer.

lets be honest with ourselves for a minute.

* epstein is aggressive, and ownership gives him carte blanche. he doesnt have to have permission to trade prospects or make a deal

* the Sox system is quality, and Buchholz is the trump card. They have a number of 3-4 star prospects they can add into this deal to make it work if they want to.

* it depends on Halladay's willingness to go to Boston. But something tells me that we'd have already heard it if he doesnt want to go there.

* we lose!

but seriously, im still hopeful on Lee.

1. Boston's alleged offer is just Buchholz and one other quality piece. Nothing close to the premium they're going to allegedly have to pay.

2. I'll believe ANY of these Boston offers when Halladay suits up for them.

My question regarding the Red Sox and Halladay, why would they want to send Buchholz++ to a division rival? I know Halladay is better than Lee, but from Boston's view, if Halladay doesn't go to them he's going to Philly or nowhere, and they supposedly want victor martinez so why not make a deal for Lee & Martinez for probably close to the same thing that JPR is going to want as a "premium" for Halladay and get a very good pitcher and a very good c/1b?

The only thing that Boston offer might do is drive the price up a little. Make no mistake about it JPR will go out of his way not to trade within his division. Unless the Phillies are certain they can get Lee for much less than Halladay this will still get done.

This reminds me of the Abreu deal (granted we didn't get the players Toronto will). The Phils were talking to New York, rumors of a Boston offer surfaced, at the end of the day we traded for a bag of crap. I'm not buying this.

I've been one of, if not the most, consistent poster in continuing to express my belief that Halladay will be a Phillies. I can honestly say that my faith has not wavered.

Until now.

Now, I must admit I am exhausted, and perhaps it is weariness born of three weeks of this plus my own personal lack of sleep, but I now believe the mother fuck-ing Red Sox will land Halladay, and I find this completely and utterly unacceptable. So irrational are my feelings right now that I honestly believe I would prefer it if the fuck-ing Dodgers got Halladay to the fuck-ing Red Sox. I HATE that goddamn team, their sandal-wearing, Dave Matthews Band-listening, Martha's Vineyard-going fans, and if I were Ruben I would do all in my power to stop a Halladay-to-the-Sox deal from happening.

I made the right decision years ago to start rooting for the Yankees in that rivalry (basically, immediately after 2004). I don't want to read about a million goddamn articles from Bill Simmons about how fuck-ing great the Red Sox are and Halladay is and Epstein is, I never want to see Gammons' sad-sack face again, I want Ted Williams to burn in hell, and, if he does indeed join the Red Sox, I want the Blue Jays never to sniff .500 baseball ever again until they move to Las Vegas or wherever, and I want Halladay's fastball to suddenly and mysteriously lose its zip the start after he inks the 5 year $90M contract extension he signs to play in that god-forsaken piss-soaked decrepit bandbox shit-hole they call a ballpark.

If the Red Sox really had a nation, I'd be declaring all-out fucking war against them. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you guys.

I still think Amaro is doing the smart thing by waiting. Unless the RSox really are involved, the price will continue to come down. And if the RSox are involved, then it won't matter if we wait or not. There's no downside to biding our time and letting the pressure build on JP.
