Considering the major motivator Halliday is even being discussed is Toronto's desire (or need) to shed payroll, if the Sox rumor bears any truth then it'll be fair to assume Theo may have suffered a minor stroke or brain aneurysm this morning. And he's only in his 30's :(

And really, I could definitely see this coming from Toronto's end, because...

Drabek and Buchholz are similar. Buchholz is a legit #1/2 SP, he's had some success in the big leagues, and has dominated at AAA this year. Like Drabek, he has a few red flags. He doesn't pitch effectively off his fastball and relies too heavily on his secondary pitches, and he was arrested for stealing computers from a school. Drabek is younger, but has an arm surgery on his docket and had maturity issues in high school, same as Buchholz.

Westmoreland is a lot like Brown. Hes a 5 tool athlete, hes got mega projection, etc etc.

Bowden and Happ are similar, both have deceptive deliveries, though I think Happ is actually a better bet going forward after seeing Bowden with my own eyes. His delivery is just whacked.

In a way, this makes perfect sense from Toronto's side to float this. The three pieces have similar profiles, almost scary how similar they are. So its like "Hey Philly, Boston is willing to give us a very similar package, what do you say?"

as an aside - the last Halladay thread closed out at 50 pages in 42 hours. I'd give this one 34 hours. So my guess is about 11PM tomorrow night.

A friend of mine who's a Red Sox fan said "that's it?" when I mentioned the proposed deal that's being rumored from the Sox. I also checked SOSH (Top rated Red Sox forum) and they say that it's "seems like an odd collection of talent to be grouped together; it kind of reminds me of when Kalish suddenly sprung up in the Santana rumors."

This has the making to be a false rumor..

I think this rumor is BS, and JPR has overplayed his hand. If that's the deal, Rube should tell the Jays to take the deal, and that the Phillies expect to focus elsewhere. If it's true, we've been outbid - if not, JPR soils himself and comes crawling back. Hope he's wearing Depends.

It certainly doesn't look like a deal with that "Premium" for AL East teams that Ricciardi was talking about. Heyman reported that douche bag asked the Yankees for both Hughes and Joba just to start the deal.

Sons of Sam Horn! That is the name of the one I was trying to remember. I've been looking at the Sox home page forum, where the prevailing opinion seems to be that they would prefer Adrian Gonzalez, who addresses more immediate needs for the Sox than does Hallday.

Interesting, but if I were San Diego, there would be no way in hell I would trade Adrian Gonzalez while they still control him through 2011 at bargain-basement prices. San Diego has been good in the past, could be good in the future, and at any rate, you need something to keep people coming into the ballpark. Who will want to go to a Padres game if they unload Gonzalez now?

It's time for Amaro to quit dicking around. Even if you don't do Happ-Drabek-Brown, it's time to include Drabek in the package and get this done. He's playing a huge game of chicken and it's going to end up biting him right in the ass.

Agreed. I think the thing that will annoy me the most about this whole thing if the Phils don't land Doc is that I will have wasted 3 weeks of my life over it.

I have to assume or hope Gillick has been pointing him in the right direction. It's time to make your move and finish this thing.

According to a poster on a Sox board, Westmoreland only opted to sign with the Red Sox instead of going to college because he was signing with the Red Sox (i.e., had it been the Phillies, or the Blue Jays, or whoever, he wouldn't have signed). Assuming that is true (and not flatly made up, or simply a negotiating strategy taken by Westmoreland that this poster has taken for truth), it's tough luck for Westmoreland if this proposed deal is true. However, I am wondering if this might be an indication that this deal is in fact false: surely it would do nothing for the Red Sox future negotiating abilities with draft picks if they sign a kid who would rather go to college but will make an exception for the Sox, only to find that the Sox will more than happily trade him before he ever hits the bigs.

Future players in a similar situation might not want to take that risk with Boston anymore, fearing they will be double-crossed...

Just a thought, a bad thought, because my brain is probably over-stimulated on this whole Halladay deal at this point. I can feel myself losing touch with reality.
