Halladay V - Final Destination

So ESPN's numbers are off by a huge margin.

How does that happen? Are your numbers you are using counting in pop flies? Because all air outs need to be counted

i think it might include line drives. removing pop flies would make the groundball/flyball ratio go up. they look too low to me.

Dodgers, Indians "In Serious Discussions" About Lee, Martinez
By Steve Adams [July 26 at 3:21pm CST]
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers and Indians are in serious discussions about a trade that would send both Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez to Los Angeles in exchange for James Loney, a young pitcher, and prospects.

The deal still faces significant obstacles due to the caliber of players involved, but the Dodgers clearly want to strengthen themselves for a strong postseason showing.

Class AA third baseman Josh Bell, Class AA outfielder Andrew Lambo, Class AAA starter Scott Elbert and Class AAA right-hander Josh Lindblom are among the prospects under discussion.

Can't decide whether that'd be good or bad for us. Bad, because Plan B would be gone. Good, because maybe it would hasten a Halladay deal.

Was it Stark saying precisely that? I wonder if they're just misstating what Stark said in his last column, that the Phillies withdrew Drabek and Brown from the Jays initial offer and replaced them with Taylor, Donald, and Carrasco.

That's my thinking, too.

I still think the final deal will be some form of Drabek, Taylor, and two others.

Why would they feed that news to Stark when they're talking to JPR? They could just call him and tell him themselves. Since negotiations have already started, it doesn't make much sense for the Phillies to play games in the press.

It certainly doesn't do much to dissuade other potential suitors from coming in and making a bigger offer.

i didn't post this but the article also said billingsley or kershaw is the young starter

LAD are nuts if they trade Kershaw. Nuts. Even Billingsley is too much

Replacing Kershaw or Billingsley with Lee is a lateral move. Adding V-Mart is obviously nice, but his bat plays up at C, not as much at 1B, and I have a hard time believing they are going to move Janice Martin from C to 1B or the bench

Regardless whether the Phillies withdrew Drabek and Brown from "any" deal, it still really could be posturing, makes Ruben look like he's making huge concessions when he includes one or both.

In theory, of course.

Missanelli wants to give up Drabek, Happ, Taylor, Donald and Marson. Thanks Mike....

John Clark says Happ and Brown, with Drabek as a throw-in at the last minute. Love this town....

This basically leaves the Angels as the only other team. Assuming they won't trade anyone off their major league roster, including Aybar, Santana, and Weaver, how does their minor league system compare to ours? They've always been reluctant to deal their prospects.

Could they beat a package from us headed by Taylor or Drabek with Wood and some other combination?

You're probably right, but the misinformation and B.S. floating around out there right now is amazing.

Sadly, these people are actually paid to know something about this kind of stuff.

Phils are 50-28 against the NL.

Anyone worried about the Cubs? In another half hour or so, they will be in sole possession of first place in the NL Central for the first time since April 21st. They said they were going to wait to do anything majot until they started playing the way they should; looks like they are now close enough to start dealing, if that was their idea.

Cubs don't have the tools to get Halladay. It's Phillies or bust. They aren't trading Vitters, I see no way how they are going to get him.

Maybe, but their financial situation may make it tough to do anything drastic.
