Or Pedro... in the shower, since he wasn't pitching.

When did he say that? And I don't think it means anything.

he said it today

It could mean anything.

It could mean nothing.

It could mean they are posturing to get JP to back off an unreasonable demand, i.e., there's a chance if you don't stop being an ass we're pulling out of this altogether.

My guess is its the later. It's like any negotiation. You don't send Amaro out to do that (conveniently Amaro is in Clearwater "to see Pedro"; like he needs to be there for that); you have ownership do it.

Just calm the fuck down and stop listening to this nonsense.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Mlbn is talking about that trade rejection. That really couldn't of been proposed by the jays, could it? 4 garbage players and they turn it down??

I guess that really means that our top 4 really are untouchable

They probably didn't plan it this way, but its a great answer to JPR's fuck the Phillies proposal to the Mets.

I never knew the Phils were close to getting Randy Johnson in '93.

At first, I was flabbergasted that the Mets didn't make that deal (once I accepted it as real) when it was offered, if only to keep the Phillies from getting Halladay. The Mets, I thought, have problems, but fixable problems. But the more I look at it, I don't know... this may be the Mets admitting they simply need another year to re-do their roster. They'll have Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Santanna, K-Rod... and not a whole lot else next year. They need two corner outfielders, and the best one available via FA before 2011 is Matt Holliday (oh please please please please please ink him to a 5/$85 deal Mets - please please please), but I don't think they will bite on him. They also need a first baseman after this year; after the disaster Delgado was this year health-wise, I'd be surprised if they brought him back, but maybe they would on a one-year deal for limited money. After Delgado, the pickings are pretty slim: Russell Branyan? Eric Hinske? Nick Johnson?

They've got problems that I don't think the forthcoming offseason can solve. They've got to hope that 2/3 of Jon Niese, John Maine, and Mike Pelfrey put it all together, and maybe they're just writing next year off to developing those guys as a staff for 2011 while they bide their time.

In 2011, there could be a whole lot on the table for them: for one thing, they could let Reyes walk. I don't know if that's a plan for them, but by 2010 he'll be costing them $9M, and in 2011 it's either $11M or a $500,000 buyout. So, if they are looking to cut costs by replacing him with a cheap, defensive-oriented replacement, that could be one thing they could do. Putz I am sure will be gone next year, and can be replaced with a one-year reclamation project until 2011. The Mets do have an unfortunate number of committments that run through 2011 or beyond, but mostly for good players (except for Castillo) that are alright contracts when the players in question are not hurt.

So, what I am wondering now is: are they thinking a little bit ahead and just thinking "we'll offer the whole store to Pujols" in 2011? Berkman will also theoretically be available then. I don't know if they could afford both (Pujols could, in theory, return to playing LF in a Mets-fan dream scenario where the Mets somehow sign both), but they'll need a first baseman regardless, because, as I said, I don't see them signing any of next year's available FAs to a more than one year contract.

So, maybe they are thinking tank next season, get your draft picks, try to shed as much payroll as possible (maybe by next trade deadline they'll be able to find someone to take Castillo and/or Oliver Perez, if they can get him pitching sort of alright again), and just make a run for two big boppers (realistically, Pujols/Berkman and Dunn perhaps, or Brad Hawpe, or - hey! - Jayson Werth) while hoping you can get the rotation sorted out in the mean time?

I would have thought for sure they would have jumped at Halladay for that bits-and-pieces offer the Jays made, but it is the case, it seems to me, that getting Halladay does nothing for their three biggest problems: corner outfield spots and first base. And his cost might prevent them from having money available later down the line, if they are putting something aside right now, for a mega-run at Pujols or Berkman and some big hitting corner outfielder.

Mets-Jays trade report (Jays offered Doc for Martinez, Tejada, Niese, Parnell) is bogus. Shot down by multiple sources.
