My bizarre Roy Halladay obsession

Postby PA_Dan » Fri Jul 10, 2009 08:32:30

Gammons said on Mike & Mike this morning that the Phils probably have the best chance of getting Halladay, but he thinks that there's only a 20% chance that he'll be traded this season.

I hate these percents that are being thrown around, it's sooo stupid

one day it's 2%, then it's 15-20%, then it's 37%, then it's 5%... then the same guy who said 15% says it's 50%

like there is some equation they are using to figure this out, just stop

The other day it was 0%. It's really stupid. If they get an offer they like, they'll trade him. And they'll almost certainly get more for him now than they will in the offseason or next year

I just love his logic: the Phils, who aren't even sure yet about a 37-year-old who hasn't pitched all year, and was a disaster last time he did, and will make about $2 million, is going to stop them from getting Halladay. I just don't understand how he can set down his bacon and butter sandwich and write this stuff

Why on Earth would signing Martinez preclude trading for Halladay? I could see if they were signing Pedro and thinking about trading for a Cook or Marquis or Arroyo but Roy Halladay is among the top two or three pitchers in the entire league. He would be an upgrade over anybody in every team's rotation (with Lincecum maybe the only possible exception). It can't be a money thing; Pedro is rumored to only be getting like $4m for this season.

If anything it may enable a trade as it frees up Happ to be part of a Halladay deal

Joel Sherman reports that if Roy Halladay is traded to the NL before the All-Star game, he will not be permitted to pitch in the mid-summer classic for the AL, but could be allowed to pitch for the NL representing his new team.

We live in a world where Joel Hanrahan, a member of the Pirates, got the win yesterday for the Nationals and was asleep when it happened.

Judging from this year, a team gets the best results from Hanrahan when he's asleep.

If we've learned from this recession, it's that mortgages can not be trusted. Gamble the future: trade Happ, Carrasco, Drabek, and, if that's not enough, Bill Conlin, for Halladay.
