Never wanted any of these high priced FAs anyway

I’ve thought that the best way to replace Niskanen would be with a trade. The worst would be a FA. They always cost too much and many times stuck the organization with a NMC or NTC. The club can go with the status quo or pick up a decent defenseman who is on the end of their contract.

I dunno, I think Alex P is the one exception. You're getting a Pronger-lite player in his prime for just money. Worry about the cap and expansion draft later. Having him and Provy as your top pair for the next 5+ years is extremely valuable.

This is easy for fans to say but I am glad they are worried about that stuff now. They have a plan and hopefully they stick to it.

That plan is going to be a consistently good, not great team unless Cam York and Nolan Patrick become all stars. I won’t be pounding on the desk anytime soon because we won’t have cap space like this for the foreseeable future.

Can’t score in the playoffs, the plan appears to be hoping Patrick can play.
Lose Niskanen unexpectedly, the plan appears to be “Ghost is a Top 4 damn” even though the coach refused to play him in the playoffs.

Wouldn’t you say the team is worse than the bubble version that was one win from the Conference Final? Certainly looks that way on paper. If they aren’t going to sign someone or make a trade, then I’m not sure what the plan is other than “we are operating completely for the expansion draft” which sucks. Scared money don’t make money.

You hope the young guys take a step forward. They almost all can play better in the playoffs. I'm sure they'll add guys at the deadline but I think they are counting on guys like Konecny, Lindblom, Frost, and even Hart to improve this season. Throw in Patrick and hopefully Giroux,JVR or Voracek find the fountain of youth.

Andy Welinski also left to return to Anaheim ... 1/$750K

But we finally have a signing! Derrick Pouliot from St. Louis, now on his 4th team in 8 years, won a Cup with the Penguins in 2016. $700K two-way deal

TB pretty clearly has to attach a good asset to get rid of Tyler Johnson. Wonder if that’s an option the Flyers would explore.

Haven't really heard anything new about his knee rehab. RFA after next season

Other than a true difference maker, I think it makes sense for the Flyers to law low in UFA. I'd rather give some of the younger guys a chance (Frost, Rubtsov, Freedman, Zamula, Bunnaman, Laczynski)

Totally agree. Of that list of players, I'll be surprised if at least three of them aren't playing full time by the TDL of the upcoming season.

All the more reason to go after an impact player, you have these young guys to supplement a big salary with their ELCs.

Was a top-15 UFA on some lists

Also our 4th-rd pick Wisdom signed a 3-year entry level deal

Seeing a lot of people comping him to ghost. Big year in 18-19, but pretty much garbage this past season.

Doesn’t seem to be much of a defenseman, but is pretty good offensively
