I’ve thought that the best way to replace Niskanen would be with a trade. The worst would be a FA. They always cost too much and many times stuck the organization with a NMC or NTC. The club can go with the status quo or pick up a decent defenseman who is on the end of their contract.

He's going to Toronto or Las Vegas. Flyers haven't even reached out to him.

I’ve thought that the best way to replace Niskanen would be with a trade. The worst would be a FA. They always cost too much and many times stuck the organization with a NMC or NTC. The club can go with the status quo or pick up a decent defenseman who is on the end of their contract.

I dunno, I think Alex P is the one exception. You're getting a Pronger-lite player in his prime for just money. Worry about the cap and expansion draft later. Having him and Provy as your top pair for the next 5+ years is extremely valuable.

I would be extremely disappointed if the organization just punted a chance for a difference maker because of the expansion draft

AP is a good player but he’s going to be 31 in January. He’s going want $ and term, probably past age 35, as well as going to cost the club a very good player in the ExD and tie up cap space. That’s too much to give up. Stay the course with all of the young defensemen in the organization. A replacement for Niskanen via trade.
