I’ve thought that the best way to replace Niskanen would be with a trade. The worst would be a FA. They always cost too much and many times stuck the organization with a NMC or NTC. The club can go with the status quo or pick up a decent defenseman who is on the end of their contract.

I dunno, I think Alex P is the one exception. You're getting a Pronger-lite player in his prime for just money. Worry about the cap and expansion draft later. Having him and Provy as your top pair for the next 5+ years is extremely valuable.
